Welcome to the Morning Briefing! The Nationals lost to the Braves last night. Let’s talk about it.

Leading this Morning's Briefing: Parker dominates in loss to Braves

Mitchell Parker continues to be a force in the Nats’ rotation. He allowed just three hits and issued no walks. One of those hits was a two-run blast from Adam Duvall, the only runs Parker allowed in his seven innings.

Things fell apart for the Nationals in the eighth when Hunter Harvey allowed his second home run of the season, a two-run home run to Marcell Ozuna. Prior to that, Austin Riley singled to drive in another runner.

CJ Abrams and Lane Thomas were the offense for the Nationals, hitting back-to-back home runs in the sixth inning. Jesse Winker got two hits for the second day in a row, while Keibert Ruiz and Luis García Jr. made sure they had a hit on the box score.

The Nationals have now lost six of their last seven games. They have three more games against the Braves this weekend, meaning they could win the series 3-1 for a second time this season if they sweep the rest of the slate.

Tonight’s matchup is primed to be a duel, with LHP Chris Sale (8-1, 3.06 ERA) taking the mound for the Braves against RHP Jake Irvin (3-5, 3.39 ERA)  at 6:45 p.m. ET.

Tomorrow, MacKenzie Gore (4-5, 3.57 ERA) will face RHP Charlie Morton (3-2, 3.88 ERA) at 4:05 p.m. ET. On Sunday, DJ Herz will make his second major league start against Braves’ ace Max Fried (6-2, 2.93 ERA). All the games this weekend will be televised on MASN.
