Washington D.C.The Washington Nationals lost 6-0 at home to the St. Louis Cardinals in their series finale. The Nationals will finish the last homestead of the first half of the 2024 season with a 3-5 record.

The Nationals now have a record of 42-49, with a 20-24 record at home. The Nationals are 3-5 already during July, are 3-7 in games against N.L. Central teams, and are 26-30 against the N.L. this year.

The Washington Nationals send LHP Mitchell Parker to the mound looking to get his first win since June 16th. However, the Cardinals scored two runs on six hits in his 7.0 innings this afternoon. (One of the runs was unearned due to a throwing error in the top of the third by CJ Abrams, his ninth of the season.)

Parker gave up a home run but struck out six. Parker now has a record of 5-5 and an ERA of 3.44 over 91.2 innings pitched. Parker threw 91 with 63 of them being strikes and faced 28 batters. Parker has gone at least 6.0 innings and allowed two or fewer walks in four of his last five starts. Additionally, all three of his 7.0 inning starts have taken place at Nationals Park this season.

Recently called up from Triple-A Rochester, RHP Joan Adon closed out the game this afternoon, giving up two runs on three hits in his one inning of work.

The Nationals went 0-for-6 in runners in scoring position and left seven on base during the game. James Wood didn’t reach base today, snapping his on-base streak.

Lane Thomas extended his on-base streak to ten games by going 1-4 this afternoon. During this streak, Thomas is hitting .279 (12-for-43) with two doubles, three RBI, three walks, four stolen bases and five scored.

Jesse Winker went 1-for-3 and is hitting .333 (10-for-30) with six doubles, a homerun, five RBI, five walks, and has had nine runs scored over his last ten games.

Juan Yepez has now hit safely in every game since being called up by going 1-for-4. Over the past four games, Yepez is hitting .313 and has gone 5-for-16 which includes two doubles, an RBI, two walks, and two runs scored.

Tomorrow's pitching matchup

The Washington Nationals will face the New York Mets in New York tomorrow. This pitching matchup will repeat the July 4th matchup in Washington, D.C., where the Nationals won 1-0 thanks to a Jesse Winker home run in the bottom of the eighth.

The Nationals will send RHP Jake Irvin (7-6, 2.80 ERA) to the mound to face the New York Mets.

Jake Irvin is coming off a career-high 8.0 shutout innings, in which he allowed just one hit on July 4 vs. the Mets at Nationals Park. Irvin is 4-1 with a 1.70 ERA (7 ER / 37.0 IP) in his last five games.

LHP Jose Quintana (3-5, 4.22) will take the mound for the New York Mets. Jose Quintana last took the mound on July 4th in Washington, D.C. Quintana threw 7.0 shutout innings, allowed only four hits, three walks, and struck out one, but didn’t receive a decision in the game. Over the last four stats, Quintana has pitched to a 1.16 ERA (3 ER/23.1 IP) with nine walks and 22 strikeouts, and he is 2-0 in that span, and the Mets are 3-1. Quintana made five starts in June and went 2-0 with a 3.38 ERA (9 ER/24.0 IP) with 11 walks and 26 strikeouts. The Mets went 4-1 in those starts.
