Washington Nationals finish their weekend series against the Rockies with a come from behind win.

Denver, CO - Today, the Washington Nationals finished their weekend series against the Colorado Rockies with a come-from-behind win after heading into the ninth down one run. The National's record now stands at 38-39 (one game under .500); on the road, they are 21-20 (one game over .500); finally, in June, they are 12-9.

Getting the win for the Nationals was RHP Dylan Floro, who pitched a scoreless 1.1 innings, and LHP Jalen Beeks got the loss for the Rockies. RHP Kyle Finnegan got his 22nd save of the 2024 season.

RHP Jake Irvin got the start for the Nationals and went 6.0 innings, giving up one run on three hits. He struck out ten and walked one. Irvin’s 10-strikeout performance was the National’s sixth double-digit strikeout game by a starting pitcher this season, their most in a season since 2021 (also six). Rockies Michael Toglia hit his seventh homerun of the season against Irvin in the bottom of the second.

In the top of the ninth, thanks to a passed ball that moved CJ Abrams into scoring position and an RBI double by Lane Thomas, the Nationals were able to tie the game. A RBI single by Joey Meneses gave the Nationals the lead in heading into the bottom of the ninth.

The Nationals brought in RHP Kyle Finnegan, who was looking to save the game after being unable to do so last night. He was able to get his 22nd save of the season. Finnegan did bring some excitement to the bottom of the ninth as the Rockies got the tieing run into scoring position. Still, Finnegan got Hunter Goodman to fly out to left fielder Jesse Winker and then struck out Michael Toglia to retire the side and end the game for the Nationals.

The Nationals also secured another series win this afternoon, their first series win in Colorado since April 24-27, 2017. Last season, the Nationals split a four-game series in Denver.

Next, the Washington Nationals will travel to San Deigo to face the Padres Monday through Wednesday and then to Tampa Bay for an off day and three games against the Rays from June 28 to 30.

Getting the probable start for the Nationals is LHP Patrick Corbin (1-7, 5.60) in search of career win number 99. Corbin owns a 1.74 ERA (2 ER / 10.1 IP) over his last two starts and held opponents to a .194 average (7-for-36) in those games. The Nationals will likely face RHP Matt Waldron (5-6, 3.46).
