Rochester, NY - Today, the Rochester Red Wings concluded their series against the Indianapolis Indians with a 12-8 win. The Red Wings won five out of six games against the Indians this week.
The Rochester Red Wings will end June with a 15-11 record and start the second half of the 2024 season with a 5-1 record.
Getting his second rehab start at the Triple-A level, RHP Josiah Gray was pulled after just 3.0 innings. He gave up seven earned runs on six hits and only struck out one, leaving a lot of pressure on the Rochester Red Wings bullpen, which only gave up one additional run. LHP Joe La Sorsa gave up the only other run in the top of the fourth when Indian’s Joshua Palacios singled to center fielder Dylan Crews, scoring Indian’s Dylan Shockley from third.
Talk Nats noticed Gray’s velocity and pitch locations were slightly off this afternoon. After the game, we asked Rochester Red Wings Manager Matt LeCroy to see what he saw that afternoon in Gray. He said, “Josiah [Gray] wasn't as sharp as he was, [today as he faced] the same team kind of threw him off a little bit with his pitches, but his pitch count was up, so we just decided to take him out.” Gray rarely faces the same team five days apart.
On the offensive side of the ball, the Red Wings strung together 12 runs on 11 hits this afternoon. The Red Wings scored one in the first, fourth, and sixth and three runs in the second, seventh, and eighth.
Joan Adon got the win this afternoon, as he threw 1.2 shutout innings, striking out three and walking one.
Jackson Cluff went 2-2 with a home run, a triple, a walk, a hit by a pitch, five RBI, and scored a run. Cluff hit his fifth home run of the season in the bottom of the fifth, driving in three runs as part of this five RBI this afternoon.
Dylan Crews went 2-5 and got a stolen base. Riley Adams got his sixth homerun on a fly ball to center field to kick things off for the Red Wings in the bottom of the first, and 1B Juan Yepez went 3-4 with two RBI and one walk.
A fun fact from today’s game, Dylan Crews has been wearing a different number (number 4) today and over the weekend up in Rochester. It looks like Rochester is and has been wearing Marvel uniforms, which they ordered before Crews was called up. He will return to wearing #3 against Buffalo this week. This is the last time the Red Wings will wear these jerseys this season.
