(Cincinnati, OH)—Well, Game One of the 2024 season is over, and the Washington Nationals did not fare too well, losing to the Reds 8-2.
WP: Frankie Montas (1-0)
LP: Josiah Gray (0-1)
In his first game of the season, RHP Josiah Gray pitched only four innings and faced 22 players. He threw 80 pitches, 52 of which were strikes. The right-hander struck out six, walked two, and gave up eight hits and seven earned runs, including two homeruns. Gray starts the season with an ERA of 15.75. It's not the start that he or the Nationals were looking for to start the 2024 season.
Before the game even started, there was some news regarding the lineup. An hour before, the Nationals replaced Nick Senzel, who seemed to break his thumb on what seemed to be a mishap or bad hop in taking ground balls and was replaced with Ildemaro Vargas. According to media reports, Snezel underwent an X-ray during the game, revealing a broken thumb.
