Our use of artificial intelligence in journalism
Artificial intelligence is changing how journalism is produced and shared. We use AI to support our work from assisting with editorial tasks to designing graphics and developing features for our website but it does not replace human judgment or responsibility.
Our approach at The Nats Report centers on human oversight, with people reviewing AI-generated content before publication and remaining accountable for what we publish.
№ 1
Our journalists at the Nats Report remain responsible for everything we produce and publish, and we strive to verify anything created with generative AI that you see.
We will never publish AI-generated content including chatbot responses, articles, infographics, or images without prior human review.
№ 2
At The Nats Report we use AI to assist with tasks such as summarizing articles, transcribing interviews, translating written content and interviews, checking spelling and grammar, improving the clarity and readability of articles, optimizing content for search engines (SEO), and identifying patterns in large datasets.
№ 3
We do not input private or sensitive information into AI tools. We follow our privacy policy, strictly when using AI in any audience-facing product. At The Nats Report we will always tell you if personalization or recommendations are AI-driven.
№ 4
We use AI to support product development, including writing code and creating features such as newsletter summaries, pages on the website, interactive tools, and story recommendations. We test AI-powered features to ensure they work as intended and design them so they can be turned off or bypassed when needed. Our goal is to build useful, reliable tools that improve your experience.
№ 5
We use AI to help design infographics and social media graphics for our website and social media channels. Every AI-generated visual undergoes human review before publication.
We also use AI tools to sharpen images or remove third-party logos and advertising when editorially justified, while respecting copyright and trademark laws.
We do not otherwise use AI to alter images of real people or events without a clear editorial justification. Every AI-edited image is reviewed by a person before publication, and any alterations are clearly labeled.
