Nats Take Game 3 in Milwaukee

The Nationals halted their losing streak at five games and avoid the sweep, defeating the Milwaukee Brewers 2-1 in 11 innings.

In a grind-it-out pitchers duel, Patrick Corbin and Brandon Woodruff absolutely dominated, with both of them going six innings and each allowing one run.

The Nationals got on the scoreboard first when Luis Garcia hit his second home run in as many days in the second inning.

Garcia had been struggling since being called up through the end of the Pirates series he was 2 for 20 good for a .100 batting average.

On the other side of the ball, the Brewers answered back with a Carlos Santana Sac Fly to score Mark Canha in the 6th.

In this series against the Nats, Santana has gone 5 for 9 with 3 RBIs and a two-home run game. He’s also drawn three walks good enough for a .615 on base percentage. Insane production.

After both starters left in the 6th, the bullpens of the Nationals and the Brewers coasted into the 11th inning. The Nationals had Hunter Harvey and Robert Garcia go two shutout innings each with Kyle Finnegan getting a scoreless ninth.

In the 11th inning, Joey Meneses was able to drive home what would be the game winning run on a sacrifice fly for his team-leading 81st RBI of the season.

Garcia ended up getting the win, his first of the year and first of his career. He improves to 1-2 on the year and the Nats improve to 66-84 headed into a three-game set vs. the Chicago White Sox.
