2024 MLB Draft Order & Lottery Odds

Well, now that the 2023 regular season and postseason are officially over, with the Texas Rangers winning the World Series, it’s never too early to start thinking about the 2024 draft. Wait!! What??

Yeah, seriously. With December 5th coming (when the lottery will take place at the Winter Meetings in Nashville, Tenn), let’s take a quick look at the odds for 17 of the 18 non-playoff teams eligible for the lottery.

The Washington Nationals’ are ineligible for this year’s lottery because teams that are “payor clubs” -- clubs that give, rather than receive, revenue-sharing dollars -- are not allowed to be selected in consecutive lotteries according to the newest CBA.

Additionally, the Washington Nationals will not receive better than the 10th overall pick due to the fact that they picked No. 2 in the 2023 MLB Draft: Dylan Crews. The Nationals would only select lower than that if all four clubs that finished with a worse record are not selected in the lottery, and the chances of that are less than .03%.
