2023 Analysis:

Cade Cavalli was in line to potentially be the number five starter for the Washington Nationals in 2023 before needing to get Tommy John surgery.  He made his major league debut at the end of the 2022 season.  It was a disappointing outing, but he showed some flashes in there, striking out six batters in just four innings of work.

2024 Outlook:

Cade Cavalli, formerly on top 100 prospect lists before his injury, is targeting a return in June to the Triple-A Rochester starting rotation.  If Cavalli can bounce back from Tommy John he may be able to crack the major league roster near the end of the year, although he most likely will have an innings limit on his arm this season.  It’s more likely that Cavalli will join the MLB roster in 2025 after a full year of recovery hopefully joining the top of the rotation with MacKenzie Gore and Josiah Gray.
