Are the New York Mets the Team to Beat in the NL East?

With a new Owner, General Manager, and making a lot of offseason moves, we wonder if the New York Mets are the team to beat in the NL East, or will they underperform during the season? Only time will tell.

The New York Mets have had a busy offseason so far they got a new owner: Steve Cohen, a new GM: Jared Porter, a new Team President: Sandy Alderson, a new catcher: James McCann, at least one new pitcher: Trevor May, and it looks like the New York Mets aren't done.

As Washingtonians, we are well aware that "Winning during the Offseason" doesn't necessarily translate to winning during the actual season, and winning during the season is most important; however, with all these moves, the New York Mets will be a significant threat in the NL East.

In addition to showing interest in right-handed reliever Liam Hendriks, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN, the New York Mets also seem to be interested in other big-name players such as pitcher Trevor Bauer, DJ LeMahieu.

The offseason hasn't been all great for the New York Mets, as back in November, their star second baseman Robinson Cano got suspended for the 2021 season after testing positive for PEDs again.

If the New York Mets add another top starting pitcher to add to their already impressive rotation, they can be a force to deal with in the 2021 season.

We reached out to our friend at Joe D from Metsmerized Online to get a New York Mets perspective. Joe stated that: "While there's still plenty of offseason left until the start of the 2021 season, it's plain to see that the Mets' new owner, Steve Cohen, will be a force to be reckoned. He has already addressed critical needs for the team at catcher and in the bullpen. However, the Mets will still need a top of the rotation arm to pair with Jacob deGrom before you call them the team to beat in the NL East."

With the signing of catcher James McCann, the bullpen fortified, the front office coming together, and the baseball world waiting to see what other pieces they add as 2021 approaches. The New York Mets can be a team for Washington to keep an eye on and worry about for the upcoming season.
