Nats Back to .500, Questions Unanswered

⚾ DUGOUT DISPATCH
With the loss yesterday, the Nats now sit at 43-43 on the season back to .500, a record they can’t seem to distance themselves from. As the second half of the season is officially underway, and the All-Star break continues to loom closer, the Nats really need to get some statement wins and make a run if the front office is ever going to be persuaded to buy at the deadline. Hovering around .500 and being unable to close out series recently is trending the Nats back in the wrong direction.
📊 THE BOX SCORE:
With the Nats at .500 on the year again, they currently sit at 4th in the NL East, a division that has had a resurgence recently along with the Nats since the start of June. A week ago, it seemed the Nats were ready to go all in on their young offensive heavy roster and get some new arms before the trade deadline, and although it looks like they need those arms now more than ever, it feels they need a few more convincing series going into All-Star break if the front office is actually going to make any moves.
Despite cooling off in yesterday’s game, Luis Garcia Jr. had been making a Nats historical run as becoming the Nats 6th ever player to hit 6+ home runs over a 6 game span, joining elite company with names like Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber, and Ryan Zimmerman. With a .304 batting average in June and 11 homers, Garcia has quickly become yet another crucial offensive pieece that the Nats can go to, as we hope to see production anywhere near as efficient as the season goes on hopefully into the month of October.
In recent news, the Nats need your help as Nats star-studded RBI masher CJ Abrams finished first place in NL Shortstop voting over the last month. It is well earned honors, but the hard work is not done yet, as it is now our job to continue showing the love, and make sure to vote him as an All-Star game starter. Well Done CJ!
🗣️ LOCKER ROOM LORE
Talked about in yesterday’s morning briefing, Nats left handed relieving pitcher Mitchell Parker has recently hit the IL. Blake Butera had some updates on the whole situation.
“Mentally, he’s pretty bummed out given what happened,” manager Blake Butera said. “He got some imaging done; we’re still waiting on the results from that. Hopefully, we hear some positive news. But with it being the elbow, [we] absolutely need to make sure we’re taking care of him. We thought putting him on the IL was the right decision.”
📈 MORNING STAT
In last year’s season, the Nats got swept in their weekend home 4th of July Series, a devastating string of losses, especially on the 4th. Let’s hope this year they can get the series win and win on America’s birthday.

⚾ DUGOUT DISPATCH
In a game where Miles Mikolas let the game get out of hand quickly by the third inning, a lead off homer for James Wood was not enough to get the bats going for the rest of the game. Striking out 12 times and only having 4 runners in scoring position the whole game, the Nats were never really at a point in the game where they could strike. As they go onto the next two, the bats must heat up, as they get the series back on track.
📊 THE BOX SCORE
Winning Pitcher: Ranger Suarez ([4–3], 6.0 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, BB, 8 K)
Losing Pitcher: Miles Mikolas ([2–7], 7.0 IP, 9 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 0 BB, 3 K)

⚾ DUGOUT DISPATCH
Despite a rainy weekend up and down the coast, the Nats minor league teams did not let the weather slow them down, with all 4 teams tying or winning their series. With the Blue Rocks and Senators trending in the right direction to sit at .500 going into the next series, all 4 of the Nats minor league affiliate now reside at or above .500 on the season as the second half of the year continues on. As next batch of series begin today, keep an eye on the Wilmington and Harrisburg finals as they both continue to work above .500 on the year.
📊 THE BOX SCORE:
The Rochester Red Wings, the Nats Triple-A affiliate and hottest team in the last month or so, capped off their 4-2 series win with a 9-4 victory over Charlotte on Sunday. With this series, the Red Wings now sit at 49-30 on the year, an insane metric considering that at on the first of May this year, they were 14-17 and since then are 35-13, completely finding their rhythm and putting prospects that will be future Nats players on full display.
The Fredericksburg Nationals, the Nats Single-A affiliate had a particularly rainy weekend, having 2 games suspended and delayed. However, the Fred Nats were able to go 3-3 on their series, winning one of the games 13-3. With the series split the Fred Nats are still the best standing Nats affiliate, at 51-24 on the year, led by especially good numbers recently by Nats number 8 prospect, 19 year-old Gavin Fien who has batted .313 in the month of June along with 25 RBIs.
The Nats Double-A affiliate, the Harrisburg Senators had a solid week, going 3-2 in their series with one game postponed. With the series win they moved back to .500 at 37-37 on the year so far. Nats 23 ranked prospect Sam Petersen was able to tally a hit in each of their 3 series wins, finding his rhythm down in Double-A and being a clear contributor to winning baseball.
The Wilmington Blue Rocks, the Nats High-A affiliate also had a solid week, going 3-3 in their series to move them to 37-37 on the year as well. Nats Number one overall pick and prospect Eli Willits had a solid 2 game stretch to close the series out, mashing a homer and a hit in the game on Sunday and notching a 1 run, 1 hit performance in the Blue Rock’s 4-2 victory yesterday.
📈 MORNING STAT
The Nats 4 minor league affiliates are now a combined 174-128 on the year as the second half continues onward.
