We have some baseball to talk about rather than just speculation about how the team will look and play on the field. While we only have two games to review this Monday morning, both were interesting. In case you missed it, on Saturday, the Nationals defeated the Houston Astros 6-3 thanks to a bases-clearing double in the top of the ninth thanks to Washington Nationals prospect Robert Hassell III. Jake Irvin looked sharp, and he was able to retire the side fairly easily, only throwing a total of eight pitches. The Nationals relievers that were brought in after Martinez pulled Irvin also looked extremely sharp as they were able to throw a total of five innings of no-hit baseball thanks to a combination of Jose Ferrer, Evan Reifert, Eduardo Salazar, and Joan Adon. In comments after the game on Saturday, Irvin said: “Everything felt good ... I attacked guys with strikes. That’s the name of the game down here right now – building up confidence, throwing strikes.” Irvin is figuring he will get at least six more starts in Spring Training before possibly getting the start for Opening Day later in March, if not in Game Two of the season. “The biggest thing is to just throw them competitively,” he said. “Don’t think too much about it and what we’ve been working on, but throw it competitively. If we need to make an adjustment, then we’ll do it in that five days in between starts.”
On Sunday, the Nationals were visited by divisional rivals the New York Mets and former Washington Nationals outfielder Juan Soto. However, the big story around the Washington Nationals was the debut of left-handed pitcher Shinnosuke Ogasawara and the Nationals debuts of Paul DeJong and Nathaniel Lowe. We also saw the season debuts of CJ Abrams and Luis García Jr.. on Sunday afternoon. Soto didn’t play during the game. However, we saw former Washington Nationals player Jesse Winker face Ogaswara and Mets DH Francisco Alvarez. The Washington Nationals easily defeated the New York Mets 11-6 thanks to an offensive outburst in the first inning that drove Mets starter Ty Adcock from the game. The Nationals scored five runs thanks to a combination of strong at-bats and some help from the Mets. Their scoring drive included three walks on full counts (by Dylan Crews, Nathaniel Lowe, and Riley Adams), three singles (from Josh Bell, Paul DeJong, and Luis García Jr.), a sacrifice fly by Stone Garrett, and a crucial two-run error by Mets pitcher T.J. Shook.
Yesterday’s game featured the debut of left-handed pitcher Japanese Pitcher Shinnosuke Ogasawara, who went one inning with no runs, one hit, no errors, no strikeouts, eight pitches, and three balls, and he threw five total strikes.
The Nationals have the day off today and will return to spring training action tomorrow afternoon as they visit the Miami Marlins at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium in Jupiter, FL, with the first pitch scheduled at 1:10 p.m.

Throughout the season, every Monday morning we will highlight one Washington Nationals player that stood out during the weekend. Our first Nationals Player of the Weekend goes to outfielder Robert Hassell III. Hassell III was impressive at the plate and also out in the outfield. At the plate over the weekend, he went 3 for 6 with three RBI, two extra bases, and one stolen base. Hassell III also had a great catch in the outfield on Sunday afternoon. Overall, Hassell III played extremely well over the weekend. Congratulations Robert!

The Washington Nationals' popular "Cherry Blossom" City Connect jerseys were retired after last season, leaving fans wondering what the team would wear next. During yesterday's MASN broadcast, Dan Kolko revealed that new City Connect jerseys are indeed coming and will be unveiled before Opening Day.
