ROCHESTER, NY - The Columbus Clippers jumped out to a three-run lead last night before the Red Wings came to bat. Jackson Cluff led off the bottom of the first with a double, and 21-year-old Brady House stepped to the plate and drilled a fastball 407 feet over the left field fence at 111.2 mph exit velocity, bringing the Wings within one run with his 10th home run of the season. House later collected a single in the fourth inning on a line drive to right field, marking his second hit of the evening.

The Red Wings tied the game in the bottom of the ninth when Drew Millas laced a single to right, scoring House with the tying run and sending the game into extra innings. In the bottom of the tenth, with the score tied at 7-7 and the bases loaded, House came to bat with one out. He patiently worked the count full and drew a walk for the second inning in a row, earning a “walk-off walk” as Nick Schnell scored the winning run. House was named “Player of the Game,” as he has been multiple times this year, finishing 2-for-4 with a home run, a walk, and three RBIs.

Last year, Brady House reported to Rochester on July 7. He played 54 games for the Red Wings in 2024, drawing only seven walks. This year in Rochester, he has played 51 games and already drawn 17 walks. Last season, House chased many pitches out of the strike zone, striking out 29% of the time and walking just 3%. This year, he has reduced his strikeout rate to 26% and more than doubled his walk rate to 8%. The increase in walks has helped raise his batting average from .250 to .286.

House has not only shown better patience at the plate, but he also recognized that being just one step away from the majors required improvement in that area. “You never know when it’s going to be your time to be called up. I think what Washington is looking for up there is more consistency from me. Consistency comes with patience!”

Brady began developing better patience and chasing fewer pitches out of the strike zone by strengthening his mental approach. “Before every game, my mindset is to do anything that will help this team win. Sometimes I find myself in big situations at bat and in the field, and I’ve learned to stay calm and trust the process my coaches have taught me.”

This improved patience and strong mental outlook have fueled a successful season in Rochester. The team has now won four games in a row for the first time this season, despite a tough spring with unusually cold and wet weather throughout April and May. One thing that has stayed hot in Rochester is Brady House’s bat. He leads the team with 10 home runs and 31 RBIs, and has also collected 11 doubles and one triple for a total of 32 extra-base hits. His batting line this year is .285/.341/.841, with an on-base percentage 60 points higher than last year’s. Consistency for Brady House has arrived in Rochester.

Defensively, House is “major league ready.” He has a cannon for an arm, and his throws from deep third to first fly like a dart across the infield. The only area where he needed improvement defensively was charging slow grounders, but he has become much better at charging the ball and still making strong throws to first.

House is only 21 years old and will turn 22 next Wednesday, June 4. The way he plays, you’d think he was much older. He is quiet and plays the game with a thirst to succeed, keeping his emotions in check and showing maturity beyond his years. When he reaches Washington, he will need to adjust to the next level of play. Brady will strike out at times and make some errors, but he will learn through his desire to be the best. Over the years, he will provide plenty of highlights. Brady House has developed patience as a player; now, as fans, we need to be patient, too.
