Tonight's Washington Nationals lineup as they kick off a three-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

A very different-looking starting lineup. Andrew Golden has reported that Travis Blankenhorn will join the Nationals on the West Coast.

It looks like the Nationals will play a man down tonight, according to Mark Zuckerman of MASN.

The Nationals are about to start a three-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Also, according to Mark Zuckerman of MASN, Davey Martinez "Spoke glowingly about Thomas, sad to lose him."

Davey Martinez said details are still being finalized, but he spoke with Lane Thomas a few minutes ago. Said Alex Call will start in RF tonight, they’ll have to play a man down and get another player here tomorrow. Spoke glowingly about Thomas, sad to lose him.— Mark Zuckerman (@MarkZuckerman) July 29, 2024

Andrew Golden of the Washington Post has a quote from Lane Thomas.

Lane Thomas: “You’re going to miss the guys. We were with each other for so long. You just make really good relationships with the coaches and players. That’s the worst part about it is moving on from the guys who you’ve played with for three years.”— Andrew Golden (@andrewcgolden) July 30, 2024

Looks like the Baseball world is liking what Rizzo did in this trade.

Al Galdi likes and thinks that Rizzo is pretty good at trades. We have to agree.

Fangraphs: Clemney #13 in CLE's system, Tena (#15), Ramirez (#17). Wow.

Talk all you want about Rizzo's record in the draft (lots to question), but the dude is straight gangster in trades.— Neal Mollen (@NDMollen) July 29, 2024

7:30 p.m. EDT Quick thoughts from Richard on this trade:

At a quick glance, Mike Rizzo did well. If you remember, Thomas was part of the John Lester trade that was made back on July 30, 2021 (funny enough, that is tomorrow); in theory, Rizzo was able to turn John Lester into a couple of prospects in the Guardians franchise.

LHP Alex Clemmey (Guardian's No. 8 prospect according to MLBPipeline), SS Rafael Ramirez (No. 22), and 3B Jose Tena (who is currently at the Triple-A level) are near or could be near major league level. These prospects could be interesting depth pieces or even starters at some positions of need, especially at the second and third base.

Lane Thomas will finish his time with the Nationals with a batting average of .257, an OPS of .759, 205 RBI, 60 Home Runs, 1,604 at-bats, and 1,777 plate appearances across four years and 424 games.

This season, Thomas was hitting a batting average of .253, an OPS of .738, eight homeruns, 40 RBI, 76 hits, and 42 runs.

Updated (7:15 p.m. EDT)

According to Jim Bowden, the Nationals will acquire LHP Alex Clemmey, INF Jose Tena, and SS Rafael Ramirez Jr. from the Guardians in exchange for OF Lane Thomas.

Nationals get LHP Alex Clemmey, INF Jose Tena, SS Rafael Ramirez jr from #Guardians for OF Lane Thomas. Huge win for #Nationals as sellers just like their Hunter Harvey deal with #Royals— Jim Bowden⚾️ (@JimBowdenGM) July 29, 2024

According to Ken Rosenthal and Robert Murray, the Washington Nationals have traded Lane Thomas to the Cleveland Guardians.

Sources: The Guardians and Nationals have a trade in place. Alex Clemmey, who was drafted in the second round in 2023, is going to the Nationals. Other names involved unclear.— Robert Murray (@ByRobertMurray) July 29, 2024

According to Murray, the Washington Nationals will at least acquire from the Guardians: "Alex Clemmey, who was drafted in the second round in 2023."

More to come...
