Breaking News: Robert Hassell III to be called up to the Nationals

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Washington Nationals are set to call up outfielder Robert Hassell III to replace Dylan Crews, according to Chase Ford of MiLB Central.

Crews exited Tuesday night’s game against the Braves after five innings, with Nasim Nuñez taking over in center field. Before leaving, Crews had delivered a solo home run in the second inning—his seventh of the season—which gave him the outright lead among NL rookies in home runs.

Hassell, the eighth overall pick in the 2020 MLB Draft by the San Diego Padres, was acquired by Washington in the 2022 trade that sent Juan Soto and Josh Bell to San Diego. Since joining the Nationals organization, Hassell has advanced through the minor league ranks, starting with High-A Wilmington and quickly moving up to Double-A Harrisburg. In 2024, he split time between Wilmington, Harrisburg, and Triple-A Rochester, posting a .241/.319/.328 slash line with five home runs, 28 RBIs, and 15 stolen bases over 85 games. The Nationals added him to their 40-man roster in November 2024 to protect him from the Rule 5 Draft, and he began the 2025 season with Triple-A Rochester as one of the club’s top outfield prospects.
