Could Adam Eaton sign with the New York Yankees?

Adam Eaton has become a fan favorite in Washington D.C. since getting traded to the Nationals in 2016. Since the Nationals declined his club option, could we see him in Yankee Pinstripes?

On December 7, 2016, the Chicago White Sox traded Adam Eaton to the Washington Nationals for Lucas Giolito, Reynaldo Lopez, and Dane Dunning.

Since 2016, Adam Eaton has had some exciting years here in Washington, D.C. In 2017, Eaton fell when trying to reach first base on April 28, 2017. The fell turned out that Eaton had a torn ACL and a torn meniscus and a sprained ankle, which resulted in him missing the whole 2017 season. It wasn't until 2018 that Adam Eaton played a full season with the Nationals. Eaton got off to a hot start at the plate to begin the season by going 8-13 with two home runs against the Cincinnati Reds in a three-game series.

In 2019, Eaton became a valuable asset during the regular and postseason for the Washington Nationals.

During the 2019 regular season, Eaton batted .279/.365/.428 with 15 home runs and 49 RBIs. During the World Series in 2019, Eaton hit a .320 with a .993 OPS in seven games.

The Washington Nationals recently declined his $10.5 million club option for the 2021 season, which to many thinks marks the end of his time in Washington D.C. and a Nationals uniform.

A stagnant free-agent market this offseason is in the works as owners try to regroup after suffering financial losses this season; this could be a good opportunity for the New York Yankees to sign a solid player without having to spend a lot. Eaton will be a tremendous addition to the Yankee outfielder if they opt to move on from Brett Gardner. Eaton is a career .282 hitter with a .360 on-base percentage.

Eaton plays a manageable defense and knows how to play all three outfield positions, which could come in handy when Yankees players will inevitably miss time due to some injury.

Eaton could be a signing that could move the Yankees needle in a big way, and as a National fan, I will be sad to see him go.
