Nats Drop Three in a Row, Look to Bounce Back

⚾ DUGOUT DISPATCH

After a rough 3 game sweep in their series against the Marlins, the Nats get a day off to regain their thoughts, and plan their bounce back. Starting on Friday, the Nats travel to Arizona to begin a 3 game series over the weekend. Although the Diamondbacks are a better team than the Marlins, Nats fans can only hope the Marlins just had the Nats number, and it was a minor setback that’ll turn into a new win streak.

📊 THE BOX SCORE:

  • After their hot streak last week, the Nats have quickly cooled off and are back to the drawing board. The Nats are now a game below .500 on the year, after getting 3 games above .500 and hanging around for a number of games til now. Hopefully this is just a minor set back for the Nats and they are quickly able to get back above .500 over the weekend. They still are fine standings wise, currently sitting at 3rd in the NL East, 2 games behind the Phillies, in a division that is wide open standings wise.

  • As to why the Nats have lost the last 3 games, it hasn't been terrible performances from them, they have just been lackluster, unable to get any momentum going for them. Typically this season, their offense has been their go-to, scoring over 5 runs per game, but in their last 3 losses they have only scored 7 runs combined. In a weekend against the strong Diamondbacks, there is no question that their strong bats need to return, preferably lead by the strong duo in CJ Abrams and James Wood. If not, someone has to step up for them to get back on track.

  • However, despite the offensive struggles, the pitching hasn’t really been much better, with the pitching allowing 18 runs over the course of the 3 games. Nats fans should hopefully not be too worried however, as the starting pitching has looked above average and the recent bullpen struggles can be chalked up to the stagnant scoring offense not being able to gain any momentum for them to hold onto.

  • In the last 2 games offensive struggles, the Nats have seen a reemergence of Dylan Crews into the lineup. Crews, who was called back up in May, has had a slow start back, batting .208 since his return, but despite the sluggish numbers it seems every game he is able to find his way on base and tally a hit some way or another. Hopefully Crews is able to find his groove and be a new key member of the Nats hot offense, especially while he currently bats higher and more middle of the lineup.

    🗣️ LOCKER ROOM LORE

In his first start for the Nats of 2026, Andrew Alvarez logged 5 strikeouts in 4.2 innings against the Marlins in a solid start.

“He threw the ball really well,” manager Blake Butera said. “I know he got in a bit of trouble there early on, but then settled in. He did a really good job for us. He got the ball to Brad Lord, who’s been awesome for us all year, and gave us a chance to win that game.”

theFUTURE

⚾ DUGOUT DISPATCH

With the major league team looking bleak in their last 3 games, on the bright side the Nats minor league teams are still absolutely tearing it up. With every team still above .500 on the season, the teams are stacked with prospects singlehandedly showing how bright the Nats future can be in a couple of years.

📊 THE BOX SCORE:

  • The Fred Nats, the Nats Single-A affiliate have by far been the best of the minor league teams, currently on a 7 game winning streak, and 9-1 in their last 10. Currently in first in the Carolina League, the Fred Nats won their game yesterday 5-0, led by Nats number one prospect and first overall pick Eli Willits who tallied 2 hits, mashing a homer and scoring 2 runs. His call up is coming any day now.

  • The Nats Triple-A Affiliate, Rochester Red Wings have also been on a tear recently, winning 2 straight and 14 of their last 16 games. Currently also in first in their league, the Red Wings were propelled to their 5-3 win yesterday by Nats number 9 prospect Seaver King. King who was called up to the Red Wings in May has continued show the difference means nothing to him. Tallying 2 hits in the win, Seaver is now batting .320 since joining, and could seriously be seeing a call up to the majors any day now.

  • The Wilmington Blue Rocks, the Nats High-A Affiliate have cooled off recently, dropping to 26-26 even .500 on the season. In their loss yesterday, Nats number 13 overall prospect Ethan Petry still managed to tally 2 hits and an RBI, continuing to bat .314 on the season, a promising bat for them awaiting his call up.

  • The Harrisburg Senators, Nats Double-A Affiliate have also cooled off a little, dropping their last 2 to move to 28-25 on the season. In their loss yesterday, Cayden Wallace had a big game, tallying 3 hits and a run to move to a .281 batting average on the season. Remaining a consistent key bat in the 2 hole for the Senators, let’s hope Cayden can keep up the productivity.

📈 MORNING STAT

The Nats 4 minor league affiliates are still a combined 129-87 on the year, with each team at or above .500 they continue to shine for the Nats.
