🎙️ LOCKER ROOM LORE
“[The win] was needed. I think the vibe of the clubhouse was great. It’s obviously a tough pill to swallow, but I feel like the energy today was great. So I think we all felt pretty good about going out there and playing the game,” said Curtis Mead on what yesterday’s game meant to the team.

⚾ DUGOUT DISPATCH
The Nationals optioned Paxton Schultz to Triple-A Rochester after he pitched three innings for them just this past Friday. It was announced yesterday that Andrew Alvarez has been recalled to replace him on the roster.
📊 THE BOX SCORE:
Since being activated from the Injured List, right-handed pitcher Paxton Schultz appeared in five games for the Nats, pitching eight innings, resulting in a 4.50 ERA, striking out seven batters and only walking one—the best K/BB ratio of any reliever with five-plus outings
Schultz was originally claimed off waivers on January 6th, after being designated for assignment by the Toronto Blue Jays, and, when the move was made, was expected to be a key part of the Nats’ bullpen despite starting the season on the IL
Left-handed pitcher Andrew Alvarez has seen four starts with the Triple-A Rochester Red Wings, resulting in a 4.66 ERA across 19 1/3 innings, with 27 strikeouts and 10 walks
Last season, in his major league debut, Alvarez posted a 2.31 ERA in five starts, even becoming the first pitcher in Nationals history to throw at least five scoreless innings in his debut
🗣️ LOCKER ROOM LORE
This move is one that is in search of a fresh arm to back up Miles Mikolas in the bullpen, which is exactly what happened yesterday afternoon. After starter PJ Poulin was pulled and Mikolas put in a scoreless four innings, Alvarez was called into the game. The left-hander pitched four and one-third innings with five strikeouts and just three hits, keeping up the scoreless game and even getting the win. This performance shows that Alvarez has very little rust to shake off in coming back from the minors and is ready to show the Nats that his game has only improved and developed further while he was in Rochester.

⚾ DUGOUT DISPATCH
This past weekend saw series enders for all of the Nats’ minor league teams, whether that be on a high note or a lower one. There are many things to take away, no matter the outcome of the series, particularly for the Fredericksburg Nationals, who found their bats again during their series at home.
📊 THE BOX SCORE:
The Red Wings beat the Buffalo Bisons 6-4 yesterday, ending their series even before going on the road after losing Saturday 6-3 and splitting Friday’s doubleheader, losing the first game 6-2 and winning the second one 5-3
Harrisburg took their away series, four games to two, against the Erie SeaWolves yesterday, winning 1-0 after finishing Saturday’s suspended game, losing 9-5
The Blue Rocks lost a close one, 10-9, after 12 innings against the Hub City Spartanburgers yesterday to close out their series at home after winning both Friday and Saturday’s games, 7-4 and 10-2, respectively
Fredericksburg dominated their final game against the Delmarva Shorebirds 10-2 yesterday, winning the series with only one loss after beating the Shorebirds 10-3 on Friday and 7-1 on Saturday
🗣️ LOCKER ROOM LORE
Fredericksburg has certainly seen improvement from their last series, particularly as it pertains to their offense. Across their series with Delmarva, they scored a total of 61 runs, including a 21-run game last Tuesday and two ten-run games, one on Friday and one just yesterday. This is quite the improvement from their last series against the Hill City Howlers, in which they scored 26 across the whole six-game series. Even in their only loss to the Shorebirds, they were able to consistently score runs and keep it a close game until the eighth inning. This improvement in run scoring is the bounce back that the FredNats needed to keep their winning consistent and their season on the track that it needs to be.
