Nats Have Amazing Start to Week, Finally Get Day Off

⚾ DUGOUT DISPATCH

The Nats have gone 4-1 in their five games since Saturday, and currently sit at 29-28, a game above .500, a mark that they have been chasing since the start of April. They have also played 16 straight days without a break, giving them a much needed rest to regroup today following their tight loss yesterday.

📊 THE BOX SCORE:

  • After winning back-to-back series against 30+ win teams, the Nationals have really started to play great baseball. Now on a 5 series win-streak, the Nats have quickly climbed out of a hole and sit above .500 on the season, playing some of the strongest baseball in the MLB. Just about tied for 2nd in the NL East, if the Nats can continue to play at the pace they’re at, they have a real chance at competing for a Wild Card spot later in the season.

  • While the pitching has continued to improve since the start of the year, the offense is still the most impressive piece of the Nats. To a point where other teams know how many runs they will need to score to beat the Nats offense, they currently lead the league in runs per game with 5.37. They also continue to be explosive in the early points of the game, getting good at taking a commanding lead early, leading the MLB in 1st inning runs, 6th in the 2nd inning, and 5th in 4th inning runs. This has been a real key in taking pressure off of the bullpen, and putting the game in the Nats hands early.

  • Nats All-Star James Wood has continued to put on a show in the last 8 games, putting up a .433 batting average, 3 home runs, more walks than strikeouts, and 8 runs scored. After a somewhat sluggish start to the year, Wood has completely taken over this teams offense alongside his equally amazing duo CJ Abrams. Abrams is currently 2nd in the MLB in RBIs, with 47 so far this season. As this duo continues to shine, the young pieces should be able to gain even more experience from them.

  • Nats starter Zack Littell might have finally found his old self, having an incredible May, and getting much better as the season goes on. After peaking this year at an 8 ERA, Littell his worked his ERA down to a 5.23 with an explosive May. In the Month of May Littell has posted 4 wins in 6 starts, and a 2.19 ERA, incredible numbers as Nats fans gain hope in a new ace finding his former self.

    🗣️ LOCKER ROOM LORE

In their current streak of great baseball, Nats rookie manager Blake Butera can only hope the rest of the season goes similar to how it has recently.

I’m really happy with it,” manager Blake Butera said. “Hopefully this isn’t the end of the stretch of us playing good baseball.”

Knowing they’ve had the pieces to win games, it is nice to finally seeing it all come together.

“These guys just keep believing; they’re starting to figure out we have some good guys on the team,” Butera said. “When you can go out and play the way we’ve played… you have to feel good about it.
