LYNCHBURG, VA - From the highest of highs to what seems like the lowest of lows, the Fredericksburg Nationals are struggling at an inopportune time in their 2025 season.

Wednesday’s doubleheader opener against the Lynchburg Hillcats demonstrated just that, a 3-1 loss that drops Fredericksburg under .500 for the season and into a tie for first place in the Carolina League North Division as the second half nears a close.

Fredericksburg (58-59, 28-24) opened up the game on a hot note as Kevin Bazzell drove in Brenner Cox with an RBI single in the top of the first inning.

Bazzell and Cox amount for four of the FredNats’ five hits in the loss, the other coming from No. 1 pick and No. 1 prospect Eli Willits.

Right-hander Chase Solesky, currently on rehab from Triple-A Rochester, allowed one hit in three scoreless innings of work, but recently promoted pitcher Owen Puk and recently acquired arm Tommy Kane went on to surrender the lead in the middle innings. The two combined to allow three runs on three hits while walking five hitters.

Fredericksburg finishes up their doubleheader this evening, looking to get back to the .500 mark on the season.
