FREDERICKSBURG, VA- Down 3-0 going into the bottom of the eighth inning, the Fredericksburg Nationals scored three runs over the final two innings to force extras, where they walked off the Carolina Mudcats, 4-3, on Wednesday afternoon.

What looked like a second-straight loss to begin their final series of the 2025 season turned into the team’s 12th walk-off win of the year, leading all of Minor League Baseball in that category.

Left fielder Randal Diaz was responsible for all three runs in Fredericksburg’s late-inning rally, hitting his first professional homer just over the left field fence in the eighth and driving home two with the bases loaded in the ninth.

Jacob Walsh was responsible for the game-winning hit, a pop fly hit to shallow left field that was misplayed by Carolina’s Handelfry Encarnacion, allowing Angel Feliz to score from third.

Fredericksburg (62-62, 32-27) starting pitcher Liam Sullivan was sharp across five innings of work, allowing six hits, one run and one walk while striking out two.

Relief pitcher Merrick Baldo earned the win in relief, tossing 1.2 hitless innings of baseball to lower his season earned-run average (ERA) to 3.46.

The FredNats now have a two-game lead in the North Division of the Carolina League with just five games remaining over both the Mudcats and Fayetteville Woodpeckers, who play later tonight against Salem.
