Tonight, the Washington Nationals will kick off a six-game home stand by welcoming the Arizona Diamondbacks and then will welcome the Toronto Blue Jays. This will be the Nationals first home series of the second half of the 2026 season. Looking to get the Nationals off a strong start will be opener left handed pitcher Carson Palmquist.
The Nationals will face left handed pitcher Ed Rodriguez who has a 8-3 record and a 2.62 ERA for the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The Washington Nationals will play 39 games in 41 days from Friday through Sept. 2.
Washington opened post All-Star break play with a winning road trip against the Athletics (2-1) and Colorado Rockies (2-1). The Nationals combined to outscore both clubs, 51-32, while winning four of six games.

The Washington Nationals lead Major League Baseball with 113 stolen bases, six more than the Miami Marlins (107). Nasim Nuñez paces the majors with 37 steals, ahead of Bobby Witt Jr. (30), and is just 10 shy of tying CJ Abrams’ Nationals-era record (since 2005) of 47 set in 2023.
Nuñez’s impact goes beyond raw totals—he also leads MLB in baserunning runs (6), according to Baseball Savant. As a team, Washington ranks first in FanGraphs’ baserunning runs above average (8.9), a comprehensive metric that converts stolen bases, caught stealings, and advancement on the bases into runs above or below average.

James Wood leads Major League Baseball and ranks among the National League’s top hitters across several offensive categories (see chart). He is slashing .329/.462/.753 over his last 19 games, with five doubles, one triple, eight home runs, and 20 walks.
Wood’s 10 leadoff home runs lead MLB and set a new single-season franchise record (Montreal/Washington). He now has 13 career leadoff homers, one shy of tying Trea Turner’s Nationals-era record (since 2005) of 14.

Here are a couple of quick tidbits on the Washington Nationals:
TWO OF A KIND: CJ Abrams and James Wood are two of just three players in Major League Baseball with at least 20 home runs and 15 stolen bases this season, with Wood standing alone in the 25 HR/15 SB club. There are 12 players in MLB with at least 20 home runs and 65 RBI Wood, Abrams, and Luis García Jr. account for three of them, more than any other team. In the National League, Wood (2nd, .551), García Jr. (3rd, .550), and Abrams (5th, .544) each rank among the top five in slugging percentage.
SEE YOU LATER! The Washington Nationals lead Major League Baseball with 150 home runs this season, the second-most in franchise history through 102 games behind only the 2017 Nationals (158). Since May 6, Washington has launched 113 homers, the most in MLB and 17 more than the Astros and Phillies, who are tied for second with 96. The Nationals entered play on May 6 with 41 home runs, which ranked 12th in the majors. HE COMES FROM THE LAND DOWN UNDER: Since July 1, Curtis Mead has been one of the hottest hitters in baseball, batting .400 (22-for-55) with six doubles, one triple, three home runs, nine RBI, seven walks, two stolen bases and 12 runs scored over 14 games. He has hit safely in 11 of those 14 contests.
Among National League third basemen, Mead ranks second in OPS (.858), third in home runs (17) and slugging percentage (.509), tied for fourth in RBI (48), and fifth in doubles (17).
