Pitching Matchup: RHP Spencer Strider (0-1, 3.60) vs. LHP Mitchell Parker (3-3, 4.32)
Date: Tuesday, May 20th, 2025 | 6:45 p.m. EDT | Game: #49 | Home Game: #23
Location: Nationals Park | Washington, D.C.
The Washington Nationals will kick off a six-game, six-day homestand tonight as they face once again the Atlanta Braves with first pitch at 6:45 p.m. EDT. The Nationals are scheduled to send LHP Mitchell Parker (3-3, 4.32) to the mound and will face RHP Spencer Strider (0-1, 3.60) from the Atlanta Braves.
The Washington Nationals earned their first sweep of 2025 on Sunday with another win in Baltimore. Yet another offensive explosion early in the game propelled them to the win, as Michael Soroka held things down for long enough to earn his first victory as a National.
Soroka delivered a strong performance, pitching 5.2 innings with eight strikeouts, allowing three earned runs on seven hits and no walks. He kept the Orioles at bay through the early innings, allowing solo homers to Cedric Mullins and Gunnar Henderson in the fifth and sixth innings, respectively. The bullpen maintained the lead, with Brad Lord giving up a solo homer to Jackson Holliday in the seventh, followed by scoreless outings from Andrew Chafin, Jorge López, and Cole Henry to close the game. In the hole…
On Thursday night, the Nationals will finish their three-game series against the Atlanta Braves with the first pitch scheduled at 6:45 p.m. EDT. The Nationals are scheduled to send LHP MacKenzie Gore, with a 2-4 record and an ERA of 3.67, to the mound and will face LHP Chris Sale, with a 2-3 record and an ERA of 3.62, from the Atlanta Braves.
The Nationals have taken four of their last five games, piling up 31 runs over that stretch—an average of 6.2 runs per game. Entering today, the Nationals have scored 10 runs in consecutive games for the first time since July 26-27, 2024, when they did so against St. Louis.
Scoring 10 runs in three straight games is a rare feat for the Nationals, having accomplished it just four times since the franchise moved to Washington in 2005. The last occurrence was from August 17-19, 2019, spanning one game in Pittsburgh and two at home against Milwaukee.
