The Washington Nationals will play game #2 against the Baltimore Orioles tonight at Nationals Park with the first pitch scheduled to be at 6:45 p.m. EDT. Trevor Williams takes the mound following his last start against Pittsburgh, where he allowed a leadoff home run, accounting for one run, but then settled in to pitch 4.0 scoreless innings. The Nationals will face RHP Tomoyuki Sugano with a 2-1 record and a 3.43 ERA entering tonight’s game. This will be Sugano’s first interleague start in his major league career.
The Washington Nationals defeated the Baltimore Orioles, 7-0, last night to earn their third win in their last four games. The Nationals’ offense set a season-high hit record with 14.
LHP Mitchell Parker set a career-best in innings pitched by going 8.0 innings and only allowing one hit, no runs, two walks, and four strikeouts. Parker now leads the Major Leagues with four starts of 6.0-or-more innings pitched without allowing more than one earned run and is now the 10th Washington Nationals starter to pitch eight-or-more shutout innings with one-or-fewer hits allowed. Nationals starting rotation now has a combined 1.71 ERA with a .153 opponents average (23-for-150) and a 4.36 strikeout-to-walk ratio over the last seven games. Also, Nationals starters have pitched at least 5.0 innings in six of the seven starts.
Washington Nationals outfielders James Wood and Dylan Crews were impressive in last night’s win. Wood went 3-for-5 with a single, two doubles, and two runs scored. Wood has reached base safely in 16 of his last 18 games, with 10 extra-base hits (four doubles, six home runs), 16 RBI, 10 walks, two stolen bases, and 15 runs scored during this span. In addition, Crews went 1-for-4 with a solo home run. Crews has hit safely in seven straight games, going 9-for-27 (.333) with a double, three home runs, five RBI, one walk, and eight runs scored during this span.

The Washington Nationals will finish their three-game series against the Baltimore Orioles tomorrow evening and send LHP MacKenzie Gore to the mound. Gore leads all of Major League Baseball with 45 strikeouts this season. He recently delivered his second 13-strikeout performance of the year, pitching six dominant innings against the Colorado Rockies. The Nationals will face LHP Cade Povich (0-2, 6.38) from the Orioles.

After tomorrow’s game against the Orioles, the Nationals will welcome the New York Mets to Nationals Park for the first time this season for a weekend series and the second part of their six-game homestand.
