Game storylines and notes
Today the Washington Nationals go for the sweep against the Baltimore Orioles and will be sending right handed pitcher Miles Mikolas to the mound who has a 1-3 record and an ERA of 7.00 ERA and 24 strikeouts this season so far. The Nationals will be facing Brandon Young who has a 3-1 record and a 4.15 ERA.
The Washington Nationals rolled past the Baltimore Orioles, 13–3, on Saturday afternoon in front of a sellout crowd at Nationals Park, taking the opening game of the 2026 Beltway Series. With a win today, Washington would complete a sweep of Baltimore for the second straight series (dating back to May 16–18, 2025), which would mark the first time in the rivalry’s history they’ve done so. It would also extend the Nationals’ winning streak over the Orioles to six games, tying their longest run in the series (May 10, 2017 to June 19, 2018).
Since the start of the 2024 season, the Nationals are 9–3 (.750) against Baltimore, outscoring them 71–37 while posting a 2.70 ERA over that 12-game span. Washington is currently in the middle of a 16-game stretch without a day off, which began May 12 in Cincinnati, and is not scheduled to get a break until May 28 at home.
