Game storylines and notes

Sens and SeaWolves square off for Game 4 tonight. Senators will look to keep the offense going for a third consecutive game. The Sens have recorded 14 runs and 19 hits in their last 18 innings of play. The Sens have Cayden Wallace in their lineup which as of late has been a big jump start. Sens look to get their young guns bats going and they’ve shown signs that they’re getting ready to heat up.

The Sens send big arm, LHP Alex Clemmey, look to rear back into form. He’s been hit a little hard and has had an issue with the long ball in his last few outings. Clemmey has allowed 5 home runs in his last three starts. The Sens would love a bounce back performance tonight from the star lefty.

It’s fireworks night on City Island and the Sens offense will be looking to provide a little bit of their own during the game. Fireworks and Friday night baseball. It should be a beautiful night for baseball at FNB Field. Sens- SeaWolves coming up at the top of the hour.

Game 3 Erie SeaWolves- Harrisburg Senators
LAST GAME RECAP

Game 3 of the series was the Issac Lyon show. Lyon has had a tough go of it since being promoted to AA. If you saw his previous start, you got the feeling he was starting to get comfortable and last night it showed. He wasn't overpowering but he had Erie hitters off balance most of the evening and got the ground balls and pop ups that he needed to have a successful evening. He made quick work of Erie’s line up, throwing around 10-12 pitches in several innings throughout the evening. His only blemish on the night was a pitch he’d love to have back that Erie’s Justice Bigbie hit over the right field wall. Lyon finished with a line of 6 2/3, 1R, 2H, 5K on 76 pitches. He earned is first AA win. Cayden Wallace added his 17th home run of the season in the bottom of the first inning to propel the Sens offense. Senators bats knocked around 8 hits on Thursday night. Sens C Caleb Lomavita and 2B Cortland Lawson also had RBIs for the Sens.

On Deck…

The Sens and SeaWolves will face off again tomorrow evening, Sunday, June 20th for Game 5 of the series. The Sens have an unnamed Opener that will start tomorrow night’s game. The SeaWolves will counter with RHP Kenny Serwa (2-6, 5.74 ERA). Serwa has struggled at times throughout the year and has given up 54 hits in 48 innings of work this season. He has pitched much better of late and won his last start 10 days ago against Akron. He pitched a season high 6 innings allowing 2R, 5H, 1BB and 2Ks. First pitch for tomorrow night’s game is 6:30 PM.

In the hole…

The Senators close the home stand on Father’s Day playing Game 6 of the series. We’ll have matinee baseball for the Dads on Sunday afternoon on City Island. The Senators will send RHP Connor Van Scoyoc to the mound to make his second appearance of the series. Van Scoyoc is 5-2 with a 3.81 ERA. The 6’6 RHP has pitched well for the Sens and keeps them in most he games. Connor’s last start earlier this series he went 4IP, 1R, 2H, 5BB and 3Ks. He was hurt by a long ball and walks in the outing. The SeaWolves will counter with Andrew Sears (0-0, 2.45 ERA). Sears will be making his second start of the series and second AA start this season after his promotion from A+ earlier this week. First pitch for Sunday’s game will be 1:00 PM

Second half preview:

The Senators get a fresh slate after the completion of Sunday afternoon’s game. On Tuesday evening when the Senators travel to Bowie Maryland to take on the Chesapeake Bay Sox it will mark the start of the season’s second half. A fresh slate and a new opportunity for a Sens team that is looking for one. Can the new young guns with the Senators mixed with the “older” guys push the Senators to a big run in the second half and earn a trip to the Eastern League Playoffs. City Island has not seen playoff baseball since 2019. Time will tell.

Why it matters:

Minor League baseball is about development and getting your young players accustomed to the way your organization goes about their business. With that said, the players also work their tails off and grind the entire year. Playoff baseball would be a great reward for a team and city that hasn’t witnessed it since 2019.

On Senators play by play guy and radio broadcaster Frankie Vernouski’s Monday night “City Island Baseball Show” he stated that “many around the league have mentioned that they feel like the Senators are in a position to make a good run in the 2nd half with some of the young talent…”
