Game Recap
LAST GAME RECAP

Yesterday, the Washington Nationals shut out the Philadelphia Phillies, 2–0, securing at least a split in their four-game series. Washington recorded its eighth shutout of the season behind Cade Cavalli’s career-best performance and a clutch double from James Wood.
Cade Cavalli (1-0) earned his first career win with a dominant outing, tossing a career-high 7.0 scoreless innings. He allowed seven hits, struck out five, and has yet to surrender a run in two home starts this year (11.1 IP, 13 SO). Cavalli’s effort marked the fifth time a Nationals starter has gone 7.0 or more shutout innings this season, joining MacKenzie Gore, Jake Irvin (twice), and Mitchell Parker.
James Wood delivered the decisive hit with a two-run double in the fifth inning, finishing 1-for-4. The rookie has now reached base safely in nine straight games, batting .308 (12-for-39) with six doubles, a homer, nine RBI, two walks, a steal, and seven runs scored during that span. He has hits in eight of those nine games and has multiple hits in four of them. Wood has reached safely in 16 of his last 18 contests.
In relief, Jose A. Ferrer closed it out with 2.0 scoreless innings, striking out two to earn his second save of the year (first since Aug. 9 at San Francisco). Ferrer has been sharp over his last 10 outings, posting a 1.50 ERA (2 ER/12.0 IP) with 11 strikeouts, two walks, and scoreless appearances in nine of those 10 games.
At the plate, Josh Bell went 2-for-4, notching his 17th multi-hit game of the season. Over his last 33 games, he is hitting .308 (36-for-117) with seven doubles, four home runs, 11 RBI, 19 walks, and 14 runs scored.
Riley Adams added a 1-for-3 effort. He has hit safely in 10 of his past 11 games, batting .353 (12-for-34) with two doubles, a homer, an RBI, four walks, a steal, and six runs scored in that stretch.
Brady House contributed with a hit, a run scored, and a stolen base. He has performed far better at Nationals Park this year, batting .284 (21-for-74) in 21 home games compared with .211 (19-for-90) in 23 road contests.
