MacKenzie Gore has established himself as one of the top pitchers in the National League this season, currently ranking fourth in the NL and sixth in all of Major League Baseball with 138 strikeouts. His strikeout rate of 11.26 per nine innings is the third-best in the league, while his 3.02 ERA and 3.94 strikeout-to-walk ratio both rank ninth among qualified National League pitchers. Gore’s strong performance also earned him a spot on the 2025 NL All-Star team, where he pitched a perfect fifth inning during the league’s victory.
Most Recent Performance MacKenzie Gore delivered a strong outing in his last start, earning the win after working six innings of one-run baseball while scattering five hits and striking out seven against St. Louis on July 9. Since May 16, he has allowed more than two runs just once across his last 10 starts, producing a 2.50 ERA during that stretch, with only 16 earned runs over 57.2 innings.
Track Record vs. San Diego Gore is set to make his fifth career start and his second this season against the Padres. In four previous matchups, he holds a 1-2 record with a 4.35 ERA (10 earned runs in 20.2 innings) and has punched out 21 batters. Notably, in his most recent meeting with San Diego at Petco Park on June 25, Gore turned in a quality effort, allowing just one run in six innings while striking out six, though he took a hard-luck loss.
Recent Dominance Over his last nine outings, Gore has maintained a 2.33 ERA, striking out 54 over 54 innings. Dating back to late August 2024, he ranks third in MLB in strikeouts per nine (10.91) and is fourth in total strikeouts (176 across 25 starts).
Curveball Effectiveness According to Baseball Savant data, Gore’s curveball has generated a 41.2% whiff rate, ranking ninth-best in all of baseball. Opponents have hit just .194 (20-for-103) with a .200 slugging percentage (including four doubles and two home runs) against his curve, underscoring it as one of the most effective breaking pitches in the league.
