Game Recap
LAST GAME RECAP

The Washington Nationals were defeated last night by the St. Louis Cardinals in a blowout loss. Former National Erick Fedde took the bump and tossed his first career shutout against Washington, while Mitchell Parker and the bullpen continued to struggle for the home team.

Offensively, the Nationals were wrecked by Erick Fedde, who delivered a masterclass against his former team. Fedde tossed the first complete-game shutout of his career, allowing six hits, striking out eight, and walking none over 109 pitches. C.J. Abrams did well as usual, going 3-for-4, while James Wood extended his on-base streak to 18 games with a ninth-inning single. However, the rest of the lineup struggled, with key hitters like Nathaniel Lowe, Josh Bell, and Dylan Crews going hitless. The Nationals were shut out for the third time in the season.

Roster Move: Washington Nationals Recall Zach Brzykcy

Before this afternoon’s game, the Washington Nationals announced that they have recalled RHP Zach Brzykcy from Triple-A Rochester to replace Lucas Sims.

Zach Brzykcy, 25, has posted a 2.35 ERA (2 earned runs over 7.2 innings) with 14 strikeouts, three walks, and a .207 opponents’ batting average in eight Minor League outings this season. This marks his second stint with the Nationals; he previously served as the 27th man for a doubleheader against the Cleveland Guardians on May 6, where he allowed one earned run on two hits and struck out one in a single inning of relief.

Brzykcy made his Major League debut in 2024 after signing with the Nationals as an undrafted free agent following the shortened 2020 draft. Before his call-up on September 1, he recorded a 2.04 ERA with 43 strikeouts and a .130 opponents’ batting average across 30 Minor League appearances spanning four levels.
