Game Recap
LAST GAME RECAP

Yesterday, LHP MacKenzie Gore gave up a couple of solo home runs afternoon but otherwise was pretty good through six innings, finishing an out short of seven innings with seven strikeouts and three walks - but four runs because Davey is either too terrified to go the bullpen until the last possible moment or because he had checked out. Brad Lord struggled in his first bullpen appearance in a month, allowing two insurance runs in the eighth, but Zach Brzykcy at least had a solid garbage time inning in the ninth, walking a batter but recording three outs. At the plate, the Nationals scraped together five hits and a couple of walks, but the only hit of consequence was Nathaniel Lowe’s solo home run off of Mikolas in the fourth.

OH SNAP 🫰

James Wood’s career-best on-base streak ended at 19 games yesterday afternoon, a run that had been the fourth-longest active streak in Major League Baseball at the time.

Despite the streak ending, Wood has reached base safely in 33 of his first 36 games this season, maintaining an impressive .385 on-base percentage. During his on-base run, he also put together a nine-game hitting streak, going 14-for-37 (.378) with three doubles, a home run, two RBIs, five walks, two stolen bases, and three runs scored-the longest hitting streak of his career. In his final at-bat on Sunday, Wood hit a 117.9 mph ground ball that was fielded cleanly, ending both his on-base and hitting streaks; this was also the fourth-hardest hit ball in MLB this year. Statistically, Wood ranks among the National League leaders in several categories, including third in hard-hit percentage (58.7%), fifth in pitches per plate appearance (4.42), tied for fifth in home runs (10), tied for seventh in doubles (10), eighth in OPS (.902), ninth in slugging percentage (.529), and tenth in average exit velocity (93.7 mph).
