Fredericksburg Nationals Story Line

After splitting a road series in Lynchburg last week, the Fredericksburg Nationals return home to Virginia Credit Union Stadium to face a red-hot Down East Wood Ducks team (Texas Rangers affiliate). LHP Jake Bennett starts tonight for the Fredericksburg Nationals, and he looks to continue a very strong start to his professional career and earn his first professional win.

What you need to know

After going 7-13 in April, the Fredericksburg Nationals will turn the page to the month of May when the Down East Wood Ducks (Texas Rangers affiliate) come to town for a six-game series at Virginia Credit Union Stadium.

The Fredericksburg Nationals split their road series last week at Lynchburg, and Down East is beginning week two of a two-week road trip. The Wood Ducks won five out of six games last week in Fayetteville, and are 1.5 games out of first place in the Carolina League North Division heading into tonight’s game.

LHP Jake Bennett gets the start tonight for the Fredericksburg Nationals, who are still in search of his first win. Bennett started the series opener in Lynchburg last week when the Fredericksburg Nationals defense made seven errors behind him, so Bennett’s ERA didn’t take a hit despite giving up several unearned runs.

In the final four games of the series in Lynchburg, the Fredericksburg Nationals' offense came to life. The team scored 37 runs in the final four games of the series and went 3-1 in those games. In the final two games, the FredNats hit six home runs - three in each game. Those included two home runs each from Daylen Lile and Elijah Green, and Branden Boissiere and Robert Hassell III also contributed home runs for the FredNats.
