The Senators and Baysox play Games 2 and 3 of their series tonight. The Sens lead the series 1-0 after last night’s 2-1 victory.

The Sens hand the ball to Alex Clemmey in Game 1. Clemmey who has pitched well of late looks to rebound from tough outing last week which saw him not make it out of the 3rd inning.

The Baysox will counter with LHP Sebastian Gongora. Gongora, like his counter part Clemmey, is coming off of a very tough outing in which he didn’t make it out of the 2nd inning but not before giving up 9 runs on 6 hits. He’s had a rough go of things of late.

Josh Randall will start Game 2 of the double header for the Sens. Randall looks to get back to form from earlier in his AA stint. It’s been a tough go of things lately. The right hander is too good to not figure it out and turn a corner and the Sens are hoping that’s tonight.

Bowie will counter in Game 2 with RHP Christian Herberholz. Herberholz has had a rough go of things since his return from AAA. He has not made it out of the 4th inning in his last three starts and has given up 8 runs on 10 hits in that span.

Twin bill baseball in Bowie on a Wednesday night. A big 2 games for both of these teams with Erie already winning their game this afternoon. First pitch of Game 1 is coming up at 5:35. Game 2 will follow 45 minutes afterwards. Lineups are out and listed below.

On a night where the hits and runs were at a premium for both squads, it was the pitching for the Sens that picked up their offense in Game 1. Both teams tallied only 3 runs on 11 hits combined. The Sens got the scoring started when Kervin Pichardo came to the plate in the bottom of the 2nd and hit a monster shot over the left center field scoreboard to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. The Sens would hold the lead until the 4th when they got a little sloppy in the field. Wehiwa Aloy singled and drove in a run and was able to advance on two throwing errors by Senators fielders. Pitcher Issac Lyon would limit any further damage in the inning. The Sens would get some insurance off of the bat of Johnathan Thomas in the 7th. Thomas hit a ground ball to SS Aloy. Sam Brown, who was on third, broke for home. Aloy attempted to throw him out at the plate and the errant throw hit Brown in the leg as he was sliding in safely to give the Sens a 2-1 lead. The Sens would to quietly in the 8th and 9th innings and leave it up to their league leading pitching staff. The offense was 0-12 with runners in scoring position.

Issac Lyon was solid through 6 2/3 innings. He allowed 1 run on 5 hits, walking 2 and striking out 2. He lowered his ERA to 3.45. Lyon fought off several scoring chances by the Baysox and the pitchers held them to 1-7 with runners in scoring position. The bullpen would come on in relief of Lyon and throw a scoreless and hitless 2 1/3 innings. They would allow 2 walks and 5 strikeouts in relief. The bullpen came up huge for the team on this night and would preserve a Game 1 win.

On Deck…

The Senators and Baysox will play Game 4 of the series on Thursday night at Prince George’s Stadium. The Senators will give the ball to recently acquired LHP Josh Hartle. He will be making his first start for the Senators since being acquired by the Nationals on Monday in the trade that since Foster Griffin to the Cleveland Guardians. Hartle has pitched well in his last several starts. He last pitched against Chesapeake on July 8th. The Baysox will counter with a lefty of their own in Joseph Dzierwa. Dzierwa pitched in the Futures Game last month and was promoted to AA back in May. He’ll be making his 13th appearance for the Baysox. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35PM.

OF Sam Petersen, who has been a mainstay in the Sens lineup and outfield and is also a Nationals Top 30 prospect has been promoted from Harrisburg to AAA Rochester. Sam played in last night's game in Rochester and was 1-3. Congrats to Sam on his well deserved promotion.
