Getting right into the season, the Harrisburg Senators began their games at home this past week against inter-division rival, the Akron RubberDucks. After a series sweep to begin the season on the road, their momentum was at a high heading back to FNB Field, home territory.

📰 THE BIG PICTURE

The Harrisburg Senators are off to a blazing hot start in 2026. With offensive firepower coming on the road and at home from the bats of Cayden Wallace and other young stars, Harrisburg continued their winning record winning 4 of 6 against Akron from Tuesday through Sunday. With great plate discipline, headlined by Seaver King who has tallied 12 walks in just 9 games, combined with consistent pitching, the formula that the 2026 Senators have built is paying off.

Holding opponents to 5 or less runs in 6 out of 9 games, both offensively and defensively the squad has remained strong. These positive trends have translated to positive results on the standings, as the Harrisburg Senators currently sit in second place in the Eastern League Southwest with a record of 7-2.

The Harrisburg Senators have also displayed a lot of depth now two series in, with 12 players having at least 12 at-bats, all of which have got going in the hitting department. Three players on the team who register for the category are also batting .300 or above.

⚔️ GAME RECAPS

Game 1 — vs. Akron RubberDucks — Guardians affiliate (April 7) — Senators 13-12

In Harrisburg, Shinnosuke Ogasawara made his Senators debut. He pitched 5.1 innings, allowing four runs, but only one was earned, and also tallied 9 strikeouts. The 27-year-old made in history in January of 2025 becoming the first player signed directly from an Asian team in Nationals history. The beginning of the game was all Harrisburg, with the Senators leading 10-1 after just three innings. However, Akron battled back scoring 7 runs in the 6th inning and getting the game tied up in the 7th. After a Cayden Wallace a homer, Akron answered again with an oppo homer sending the game to extras. A groundball single up by the gap hit by Cortland Lawson in the 10th would keep Harrisburg perfect on the year and open the home season with fireworks on the field as well as after the game.

Game 2 — vs. Akron RubberDucks — Guardians affiliate (April 8) — Senators 4-2

Eriq Swan, pitching in his Senators debut as well, threw a lights out four innings of no-hit, no-run baseball. He only gave up two walks as well and struck out six batters. Handing the baton to Connor Van Scoyoc who also put up two shutout innings. The Harrisburg Senators combined no-hit bid would continue with Luke Young and Valentin Linarez both allowing zero runs. Heading to the last inning, the Senators would earn yet another win after Holden Powell earned the save despite giving up the first hit of the game as well as 2 runs. On the opposite side of the ball, the Senators bats were alive hitting three home runs headlined by a two-run Seaver King 7th inning HR, his first of the year. Cayden Wallace homered directly after him and the strong offensive attack bloomed into yet another victory.

Game 3 — vs. Akron RubberDucks — Guardians affiliate (April 9) — Senators 12-1

Alex Clemmey pitched strong again in his second start, allowing one run in 3.1 innings and striking out four. The Senators offense absolutely exploded, tallying 16 hits, best of the season, highlighted by 6 runs in the 5th inning. Catcher Max Romero Jr. played a key role, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored. Seaver King also contributed two RBIs. Sam Petersen hit his second homer of the year. Harrisburg Senators would come away with a commanding win and now only giving up 5 hits in the last 2 games.

Game 4 — vs. Akron RubberDucks — Guardians affiliate (April 10) — Senators 6-8

Davian Garcia would get the start for the Harrisburg Senators on Friday hoping to continue the magical winning streak. Harrisburg jumped early with a Sam Brown three-run home run. However, all good things must come to an end and that was the case here as Akron answered by adding 7 runs in total in the fourth and fifth innings. However, three errors aided this scoring frenzy and the RubberDucks hitting attack wasn't as strong as assumed. Branden Boissiere hit a two-run home run in the seventh to try and breathe back some life into his team but it was too late and the rally in the 9th inning came up short, leading to the Senators first loss of the season.

Game 5 — vs. Akron RubberDucks — Guardians affiliate (April 11) — Senators 3-11

26-year-old Kyle Luckham was on tap for his first start of the season and was given limited help on the offensive side, where the Senators only put up 3 hits the entire game. Akron totaled 15 hits in the game and broke it open in the fifth inning scoring 5 runs. Caleb Lomavita crushed a three-run homer to straightaway center for the Harrisburg Senators only scoring of the day in the 6th.

Game 6 — vs. Akron RubberDucks — Guardians affiliate (April 12) — Senators 9-2

LHP Jackson Kent, on tap for his first start of the season, was given the duty of commanding his team to a series win. This was succeeded, in large part due to resilience of the group. After being down early on in the 1st, the Harrisburg Senators answered with a homer in the bottom of the first inning and kept the scoring going in all ways including on a balk. Meanwhile, on the flip side, scoring was kept at a premium for the RubberDucks, who were put against 5 different Senators pitchers in the series finale and didn't score after the beginning 30 minutes of the game.

  • Runs this week: 47 scored and 36 allowed

  • Winning in the clutch: The first two wins of the series both came by 2 runs or less

  • Hot streak: Eriq Swan — Pitching in his first game of the season on Wednesday, the 6’6” Georgia native put on a show for the Senators crowd. He threw 4 innings of no-hit ball, which is sure to bounce him up the depth chart. He was acquired in the Alex Call Dodgers trade and has proven himself early on in his Nationals organization tenure as a star.

  • Prospect spotlight: Seaver King — Added his first homer of the year and continued to be one of the biggest pieces to this powerful offense with 1 of 3 players on the roster to have played all 9 games. Tied for most runs on the Senators.

  • Player shoutout: Kevin Made got his season going with a strong start tallying an RBI single on April 7th. The 23-year-old has a huge potential.

  • Fun stat: The Senators' 7-0 start was the best start to a season in the franchise's modern era (since 1987). Previously, Harrisburg never started better than 3-0.

💬 QUOTE

Speaking on Senators pitcher Shinnosuke Ogasawara, Nationals pitcher Jake Irvin said last year, “He’s a freakin’ competitor. He likes to go out there and just get after people.”

The Harrisburg Senators early series success against Akron was in large part thanks to the strong Harrisburg debut for Shinnosuke on opening night. He finished with 9 strikeouts in five innings of work and will be a key piece in the pitching rotation this year, coming off last season where he saw major league action.

f: He made a very rare appearance as a pitcher batting for the Nationals last season due to a perfect storm of events where he was already in the game as a relief pitcher, and was forced to bat because the Nats had lost their DH coming in the game already. Definitely a cool piece of history for Nationals lore.

🔍 SERIES PREVIEW: NEXT UP

The Harrisburg Senators head on the road once again to UPMC park to play the Erie SeaWolves (Tigers affiliate) beginning Tuesday, April 14th for their next series in PA.

Watch for the Senators offensive attack, as they come in posting some of the higher scores in all of minor league baseball while Erie has given up 10 or more runs on three occasions already this year.
