Harrisburg just finished their final series of the year against Akron and although it wasn’t a winning series, there are still many positive takeaways as we inch closer to season’s end.

Playing on the road for the second to last time this season, the Senators were once again dealt a poor hand with weather, having a shortened series due to storms on Saturday. However, the shortened series did not stop the scoring average whatsoever, as there were multiple shootouts that led to some very fun matchups in Ohio.

Game 1 — Akron RubberDucks — Guardians affiliate (August 18) — Senators 6-8

The Senators led until the sixth inning but couldn't hold on, as Akron rallied to win 8-6 in a dramatic walk-off. Harrisburg took an early 2-0 lead with sac flies from Boissiere and Green, but Akron responded with a solo homer and a two-run double to cut the lead to 4-3. The RubberDucks took the lead in the fifth with a three-run homer, and despite Harrisburg tying the game in the ninth, Akron’s Dean Curley ended it with a two-run shot in the bottom of the tenth. Harrisburg’s offense was led by Petry’s recent hot streak, driving in 13 runs in six games.

Game 2 — Akron RubberDucks — Guardians affiliate (August 19) — Senators 10-6

The Senators staged a remarkable comeback to beat Akron 10-6 after falling behind 5-0 early. Akron scored twice in the first and three in the third, but Harrisburg responded with a rally starting in the fourth, with Fitz-Gerald’s homer sparking the offense. The Senators took the lead in the seventh, highlighted by Green’s and Bazzell’s key hits, and extended it further with Brown’s homer in the eighth and Petry’s solo shot in the ninth. Harrisburg’s bullpen, led by Luckham, shut down the Ducks in the late innings to secure the win and even the series. Petry continued his hot streak, driving in 15 runs over seven games.

Game 3 — Akron RubberDucks — Guardians affiliate (August 20) — Senators 1-2

The Senators fell 2-1 to Akron in a close game that was scoreless until the sixth inning. Harrisburg's pitchers kept the Ducks off the board through the first five innings, with Herz and Brown pitching scoreless relief. Akron scored twice in the sixth on a double, infield single, and sacrifice fly, taking the lead. Petry’s homer in the seventh cut the deficit to 2-1, but Harrisburg couldn't complete the comeback. The Senators threatened in the eighth with a walk but stranded the runner, while Grable secured the shutout in relief. Jacobs finished the game with a perfect ninth for the save as Akron edged Harrisburg.

Game 4 — Akron RubberDucks — Guardians affiliate (August 21) — Senators 8-7

The Senators jumped out to an early 5-0 lead but had to hold on as Akron rallied to take a 6-5 lead in the fifth. Harrisburg responded with a clutch homer from Pichardo in the seventh to tie it, then took the lead again in the eighth on a key single from Mitchell. The bullpen held firm, with Young and Cranz closing out the game, securing an 8-7 victory. Harrisburg’s offense, led by Pichardo and Mitchell, produced enough late to edge the Ducks in an exciting back-and-forth game.

Game 5 — Akron RubberDucks — Guardians affiliate (August 23) — Senators 4-8

After Saturday’s game was cancelled, the series finale became Game 5 of the series on Sunday. Akron dominated with five home runs in an 8-4 win over Harrisburg, clinching the series three games to two. The Ducks jumped to a 7-0 lead after five innings, highlighted by Cesarini’s two homers and Schubart’s long ball. Harrisburg scored twice in the sixth, with Mitchell driving in two runs, but couldn't overcome the early deficit. The Senators added two more runs in the seventh, but Akron’s bullpen held on for the victory.

As milb.com pointed out a few years ago, it’s important to know the storied history that comes with the Harrisburg Senators brand and team image. By this point, the franchise has remained more historically consistent than nearly any squad across pro sports.

The Senators are back in action Tuesday night, Aug. 25, hosting the Chesapeake Baysox (Baltimore Orioles) for a six-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
