From the Beat...

Hope you’re having a great start to the week, Senators fans! Welcome to From the Beat, your inside look at the latest headlines, analysis, and storylines from around the Harrisburg Senators organization as the 2026 season rolls on. Let’s dive in.

This week, the Harrisburg Senators battled for the second time against the Akron RubberDucks, the Cleveland Guardians double-a affiliate. Despite not having home field advantage this time around, the Senators still split the series, winning 3 of the 6 games this past week. As we head to the second month of the 2026 season, the Senators continue to keep themselves positioned near the top of the standings and staying consistent on both sides of the ball.

📰 THE BIG PICTURE

On the road again, the Harrisburg Senators were not met with any rain delays/postponements this week and played all 6 games in full in Akron. On Sunday it sure looked like the series was heading in Akron’s favor, but due to one of the more remarkable comebacks in recent history, it will be an evened out series.

It was very much a low scoring series, with the final game being the only match where either team put up double digits. Pitching was on point which made for a few deciding plays rather than a bigger trend.

Three Senators players now have at least 4 homers on the year as well as three having 15 or more RBI. It has been a collective effort pitching wise as well but Connor Van Scoyoc has tallied the most wins already with a record of 4-1.

⚔️ GAME RECAPS

Game 1 — vs. Akron RubberDucks — Guardians affiliate (April 28) — Senators 3-0

The starting pitcher, Alex Clemmey, performed strong yet again against his former organization, pitching six innings without allowing a hit until the sixth and finishing with only one hit allowed. He also struck out six batters and walked two. Relievers Jared Simpson and Erick Mejia kept the game scoreless, with Mejia earning the save. The Senators scored three runs, with key RBIs from Caleb Lomavita, Kervin Pichardo, and Seaver King. Ultimately, the Senators won the game 3-0. It is officially their third shutout of the season thus far.

Game 2 — vs. Akron RubberDucks — Guardians affiliate (April 29) — Senators 3-8

Davian Garcia started the game but had a very difficult inning, giving up five runs before he was replaced. After Garcia left, six relievers came in to try to stop the bleeding, but the RubberDucks kept scoring. Akron scored early with five runs in the first inning and added more later in the game. The Senators scored three runs in total, with one in the second inning and two in the ninth. Harrisburg had a hard time hitting with runners on base, managing only two hits in those situations. Overall, the RubberDucks won the game 8-3, ending Harrisburg’s winning streak.

Game 3 — vs. Akron RubberDucks — Guardians affiliate (April 30) — Senators 4-2

Jackson Kent pitched 3.2 scoreless innings, and Chance Huff followed with 2.1 scoreless innings. Harrisburg scored first when Max Romero Jr. drove in Jack Rogers in the second inning. Cayden Wallace hit a home run in the third to make it 2-0. The Senators added a run in the seventh, and Leandro Pineda hit a solo homer in the ninth to secure the win. The RubberDucks scored two late runs but couldn't catch up. Harrisburg won the game 4-2.

Game 4 — vs. Akron RubberDucks — Guardians affiliate (May 1) — Senators 2-3

On the first of May, Japanese pitcher Shinnosuke Ogasawara started for Harrisburg and pitched very well in his second appearance of the year. He threw six innings and only allowed one run, giving up five hits and one walk. He also struck out eight batters. The game was close, and Harrisburg was narrowly behind for most of it. They tied the score in the eighth inning and took the lead in the tenth in extras. But Akron scored a run in the bottom of the tenth to win the game 3-2 with a walk-off to tie the series 2-2.

Game 5 — vs. Akron RubberDucks — Guardians affiliate (May 2) — Senators 3-4

On Saturday night, pitcher Kyle Luckham had his best start of the season, pitching 6.2 innings and allowing only two hits. He retired the first 15 batters in a row and matched his career-high of eight strikeouts. Harrisburg scored three runs in the fourth inning, with key hits from Sam Brown, Leandro Pineda, and Max Romero Jr. The game stayed close until the eighth inning when Ralphy Velasquez hit a grand slam for Akron, giving them a 4-3 lead. The Senators tried to come back but went down one-two-three in the ninth giving Akron the win and setting up for a key final game.

Game 6 — vs. Akron RubberDucks — Guardians affiliate (May) — Senators 13-11

This game was one of the most exciting and important in recent Harrisburg history. The Senators faced an 11-0 deficit in the second inning, making it seem like the game was heading for a series loss. But they didn’t give up. Harrisburg mounted an incredible comeback, scoring 13 unanswered runs from the third through the seventh innings to win 13-11. This 11-run comeback is the biggest in the franchise’s modern era (since 1987).

Max Romero Jr. was a huge part of the rally, going 3-for-5 with two home runs, four RBIs, and three runs scored. Without this kind of showing a comeback of that magnitude would have been unreachable. Sam Petersen and Seaver King also played key roles, each with three hits, and multiple RBIs and runs. The Senators’ bullpen shut down Akron’s offense after the early explosion, allowing only one hit over the last several innings. This win was a huge moment for the entire Senators organization and will be marked in history forever.

📊 BY THE NUMBERS

  • Record: 16-10 (2nd in Eastern League SW)

  • Runs this week: 28 scored vs 28 allowed (how about that coincidence!)

  • Pitching dominance: Other than Game 6, the Senators did not give up 5 or more runs.

  • Hot streak: Maxwell Romero Jr — Romero, the Miami graduate and native, continues to have a heck of a year thus far. Maxwell is batting .283 with 3 home runs and 11 RBI, despite playing in less games than his catcher counterpart.

  • Prospect spotlight: Cayden Wallace — The third baseman leads the team in hits, home runs, and games played. Now that is saying something.

  • Player shoutout: Shinnosuke OgasawaraTwo starts under his belt at the Double-A level and Shinnosuke has been rock solid. 11.1 innings pitched with just 2 earned runs and 1 home run allowed. Only walked two batters and has also tallied 17 strikeouts.

  • Fun stat: Akron at one point had a 99.5% winning probability in Sunday's series endcap but the Senators fought all the way back.

💬 QUOTE OR INSIGHT

A little bit different of a format this week, but here we go- Maxwell Romero tells Opendorse his favorite quote is: “Don’t let anyone tell you the sky is the limit, when there are footprints on the moon.”

Maxwell continues to dream big and achieve his dreams along the way with such a high ceiling in the pro baseball landscape. The 25-year-old who celebrated his birthday last Wednesday has been a key driving force of Harrisburg’s success this year both defensively and offensively.

🔍 SERIES PREVIEW: NEXT UP

The Harrisburg Senators return to home field to play host to the Erie SeaWolves for their second matchup of the season so far. They have a game scheduled per usual everyday from Tuesday through Sunday with a Firework show postgame on Friday.

Last time the two teams went head to head, Harrisburg came out with a series win by one game despite losing two ahead of the finale. Should be a fun rematch this week!
