Harrisburg Senators Weekly Recap: Chesapeake Baysox Series Results and Highlights

Senators were on the road in Chesapeake Bay for their first full series in August this week and first 7-game series of the year.

The Harrisburg Senators had a very tightly contested series once again this week, which has become a trend the back half of the season. Despite losing the series 4 games to 3, they still put up a good count of runs and had consistent pitching performances the whole week.

Game 1 — Chesapeake Baysox — Baltimore Orioles affiliate (August 4) — Senators 2-1

Harrisburg’s pitching staff combined to hold Chesapeake to just one run on five hits, securing a 2-1 victory. Isaac Lyon led the way with 6.2 innings, allowing only one run while scattering five hits and walking two, earning his fifth win of the season. The Senators scored first with a leadoff homer from Kervin Pichardo in the second. Chesapeake tied it in the fourth after a series of misplays that allowed a run to score. Harrisburg regained the lead in the seventh on a groundout by Sam Brown after back-to-back singles and a balk put runners in scoring position. The bullpen shut down the Baysox in the final innings, with Luke Young, Jhancarlos Lara, and Sandy Gaston each finishing scoreless, with Gaston earning his second save.

Game 2 — Chesapeake Baysox — Baltimore Orioles affiliate (August 5/Game 1) — Senators 1-8

The Senators scored their only runs in game one on a groundball single by Ethan Petry in the first inning, and Branden Boissiere’s homer in game two accounted for their lone run in that game. However, Chesapeake’s offense exploded in the first game with four home runs, including a three-run shot from Wehiwa Aloy and back-to-back homers from Anderson De Los Santos and Brandon Butterworth.

Game 3 — Chesapeake Baysox — Baltimore Orioles affiliate (August 5/Game 2) — Senators 1-2

Branden Boissiere's homer in game two and Ethan Petry's RBI single in game one accounted for the Senators' two runs in the doubleheader. Chesapeake swept Harrisburg with an 8-1 win in game one, thanks to four home runs, and a 2-1 victory in game two, with Boissiere’s solo shot in the sixth providing the only run for the Senators. Despite the losses, Harrisburg's pitchers made their debut appearances, with Ben Grable, Joe Glassey, and Kendeglys Virguez all tossing scoreless innings. The Senators struggled offensively in the series, scoring only four runs in the first three games.

Game 4 — Chesapeake Baysox — Baltimore Orioles affiliate (August 6) — Senators 3-2

Sam Brown's three-run homer in the ninth capped a dramatic comeback, giving the Senators a 3-2 victory over Bowie. Harrisburg trailed 2-0 entering the final inning, but Elijah Green’s leadoff double and Kervin Pichardo’s walk set the stage. Brown fell behind 0-2 but fought off the pitcher’s high fastball, sending it out to right field for his fifth home run of the season. Luke Young closed out the game with a perfect ninth, earning his third win of the season. Earlier, talented lefties Josh Hartle and Joseph Dzierwa shined for Harrisburg, with Dzierwa tossing six scoreless innings with nine strikeouts, and Hartle retiring 13 straight before leaving in the sixth.

Game 5 — Chesapeake Baysox — Baltimore Orioles affiliate (August 7) — Senators 2-5

Harrisburg showed early promise but couldn't capitalize, falling 5-2. The Senators outhit the Baysox 9-8 through the first four innings but left 13 runners on base and went just 1-for-13 with runners in scoring position. Baysox took the lead in the first on a bloop double by Thomas Sosa after a walk to Wehiwa Aloy. Cortland Lawson pinch-ran and scored on Caleb Lomavita’s sacrifice fly to trim the deficit to 5-2, but the Senators couldn’t complete the comeback. Sam Brown continued his hot streak with a 4-for-4 game, his second career four-hit game with Harrisburg.

Game 6 — Chesapeake Baysox — Baltimore Orioles affiliate (August 8) — Senators 2-5

Harrisburg fell 5-2 to the Baysox, despite hitting two home runs off top prospect Anthony Eyanson. Pichardo’s leadoff homer gave the Senators an early lead, but Bowie responded with a homer and a big inning in the fourth to take control. Devin Ortiz hit a solo shot to cut the deficit to 3-2, but Bowie added two more runs in the sixth. Harrisburg’s pitchers kept it close, with Ben Grable striking out four in a scoreless seventh. The Baysox secured the series win, taking four of six games this week.

Game 7 — Chesapeake Baysox — Baltimore Orioles affiliate (August 9) — Senators 1-0

The Senators secured a 1-0 shutout win over the Baysox Sunday, their ninth of the season and third 1-0 victory. Elijah Green’s first Double-A homer in the sixth powered the win, as Chesapeake was held to just two hits. Jack Cebert debuted with four strong innings, allowing only one hit and striking out six. Isaac Lyon closed with four scoreless innings for the save, retiring the final five batters. The Baysox threatened in the ninth, but Lyon caught a runner at the plate and struck out the last batter to seal the win.

This quote is in reference to Texas native and Wichita State/Oklahoma State former player, current Senator Robert Cranz. The reliever has had a great season and has been filling up the stat sheets.

The Harrisburg Senators head back to FNB Field to host the Richmond Flying Squirrels. The first three games of the series are educator appreciation nights.
