From the Beat...

Hope you’re having a great start to the week, Senators fans! Welcome to From the Beat, your inside look at the latest headlines, analysis, and storylines from around the Harrisburg Senators organization as the 2026 season rolls on. Let’s dive in.

Following the first home series win of the year… the Senators have just wrapped up their second road stretch, this past week against the SeaWolves. Despite battling the weather as well, they came out largely victorious as the strong start to the 2026 season continues in Pennsylvania.

📰 THE BIG PICTURE

The Harrisburg Senators, Nationals AA affiliate, are continuing their quality start to the new season. Behind an amazing start to the year hitting-wise by Cayden Wallace, who leads the squad with 20 hits/3 HRs, as well as consistent pitching highlighted by Sandy Gaston who has pitched in 6 games and given up just 3 hits.

Harrisburg has proved to have a very balanced attack that has stifled all three opponents thus far. This has helped the team continue to stay steady in the standings, still in second place in their division and winning all series they have played in.

Star prospect Seaver King continues to shine with a team-high 17 RBI and 15 walks. Harrisburg has shown to utilize their strong depth across key positions like catcher, where Maxwell Romero and Caleb Lomavita have split time and both put up good numbers.

⚔️ GAME RECAPS

Game 1 — vs. Erie SeaWolves — Detroit Tigers affiliate (April 14) — Senators 13-8

In Erie, RHP Holden Powell struck out three across three shutout innings to begin the great night for Harrisburg. This was followed by two more shutout innings on behalf of Chance Huff. The game’s really story was that of a hitting explosion by Harrisburg. Seven different Senators doubled in the game including two from Cayden Wallace and Seaver King. They exploded for six runs in the 2nd inning. King added 5 RBIs in innings 2 and 3. Senators led 9-3 until Erie made a valiant effort by making it within two runs in the 8th but Harrisburg answered with four more runs in the 8th and Sandy Gaston would finish the night out on the mound for the Senators closing a big opening series win.

Game 2 — vs. Erie SeaWolves — Detroit Tigers affiliate (April 16) — Senators 11-9

Starting pitcher Alex Clemmey opened the game for the Senators for his third start of the year, who continued their early-season hot streak with an 11-9 win over the SeaWolves. Clemmey continues to prove he was a valuable add from the Guardians-Lane Thomas trade. The Senators created an early lead with a three-run homer from Kervin Pichardo and key plays from Cayden Wallace, who went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Pichardo will be facing his former team in the Altoona Curve next week. Later in the game, Erie put together a late rally, scoring five runs in the 8th, but 31-year-old Erick Mejia secured his first save of the season in the 9th to close out the W. Harrisburg’s strong offensive performance and solid pitching led to their ninth win in 11 games.

Game 3 — vs. Erie SeaWolves — Detroit Tigers affiliate (April 17) — Senators 2-0

Starting pitcher Davian Garcia led the Senators to a 2-0 victory in game one of the Friday doubleheader, extending their winning streak to four games in a row. Garcia pitched five scoreless innings, allowing just one hit, walking three, and striking out four. He helped secure the first shutout for Harrisburg in 2026, a trend that hopefully continues down the line. The Senators scored their two runs early on, in the first and fifth innings, with Cayden Wallace scoring both times as his run total grows on RBI outs from Jack Rogers.

Game 4 — vs. Erie SeaWolves — Detroit Tigers affiliate (April 17) — Senators 2-5

Starting pitcher Connor Van Scoyoc took the mound for Harrisburg in game two, which was rescheduled from 4/15 after being postponed twice due to heavy rain. Erie scored two runs in the bottom of the 1st inning, making it the first time in the series they scored first. The Senators responded fast with a two-run homer from Max Romero in the 2nd, tying the game. However, Erie pulled ahead with two more runs in the 2nd and another in the 5th to lead 5-2. Harrisburg threatened in the sixth and seventh innings, bringing the tying run to the plate both times, but Trevin Michael secured the save and Erie snapped the Harrisburg Senators winning streak.

Game 5 — vs. Erie SeaWolves — Detroit Tigers affiliate (April 18-19) — Senators 5-9

With a 1:35 PM opening pitch, LHP Jackson Kent was on tap to start for the Harrisburg Senators. It was for the series win, and although the bats would make some noise for the Senators, the job would not be finished here and Erie would take the second win in a row. This game was suspended mid-game on Saturday and finished early Sunday afternoon ahead of the series finale. To begin on Saturday, Seaver King homered for the second time in this Harrisburg Senators season, this time in center field. Starting pitcher Kent would last just one inning and it turned into a battle of the relievers especially after the postponement. After two more runs from the SeaWolves, the Senators would be down by 1 heading to the 4th where Seaver King would record his second homer on the day, this one driving in three runs. Erie would bust open the scoring as the game progressed, making it 8-4 heading to the seventh inning stretch and Harrisburg could not recover. 2022 draft pick Luke Young would be the only member of the bullpen to come in and not give up at least a run for the Harrisburg Senators.

Game 6 — vs. Erie SeaWolves — Detroit Tigers affiliate (April 19) — Senators 1-0

As the second game to finish on Sunday and the final game of the series, this one would be the decider for the winner of the series as Erie had a chance to spoil the Senators series win. However, Erie would fail to go through on this plan and the strong pitching attack from Harrisburg would stifle any scoring attack, winning 1-0. Holden Powell got the start on the bump and would ultimately get the win after an RBI fielder’s choice groundball by Jack Rogers in the second would be the only scoring of the day for either team. Ultimately, 5 Harrisburg pitchers would put up no-run baseball, just allowing 5 hits the whole day. This all coming with Seaver King not playing which is of course rare to see. Despite the change in schedule due to rain, Harrisburg would prove strong and win their third of three series thus far in 2026.

He has appeared in the third most games this year, only behind Cayden Wallace and Seaver King for the Harrisburg Senators.

  • Player shoutout: Maxwell Romero Jr — Although not getting as much playing time as his catcher counterpart, Romero has sure made use of his time on the field. The 5’11” switch hitter has tallied 7 hits in 22 at-bats, three of which were doubles. Max figures to have a growing role on the Senators depth chart.

  • Fun stat: The Harrisburg Senators, Nationals Double-A affiliate, set a new franchise record by recording 9 doubles in a single game on April 14, 2026, in Erie.

💬 QUOTE OR INSIGHT

“Defensively, I feel like I am best when I am reacting to the baseball. I can just layout and not think about it and make the play and get up and throw him out or throw it from my knees. I just feel like (third base) is my best position.”

Cayden Wallace, said so, speaking to the Baseball Prospect Journal in 2020. He has been crucial to the Senators success this season, playing third base. Wallace is the only player on the Harrisburg Senators to have already recorded over 20 hits, and under 10 strikeouts while playing in at least 12 games. The Little Rock, AR native is off to a blazing start to this season.

f: On July 13, 2024, Wallace was traded to the Washington Nationals, along with the Royals’ Competitive Balance Round A pick in the 2024 Major League Baseball draft, in exchange for Hunter Harvey.
