Hope you’re having a great start to the week, Senators fans! Welcome to From the Beat, your inside look at the latest headlines, analysis, and storylines from around the Harrisburg Senators organization as the 2026 season rolls on. Let’s dive in.

After losing 4 of 6 games the prior week to Somerset, the Senators were back in action against a new opponent in the Flying Squirrels this week, the SF Giants affiliate. Despite the new location, it was the same result, winning just 2/6. Despite this, there were a number of runs put him and positive takeaways that will lead into the next home series against Erie.

📰 THE BIG PICTURE

The Harrisburg Senators have taken a bit of a slide in their standings after losing back to back series. Currently sitting 32-31 overall, just above the .500 mark, they place in 4th at the moment.

Cayden Wallace continues to take charge leading the team with 68 hits and 14 home runs, as well as plating a .297 batting average in 56 games played. Sam Petersen’s hot streak has continued as well, with now over 55 hits on the year. Connor Van Scoyoc has the most wins in the pitching department with a record of 5-2 in 15 games appeared in.

⚔️ GAME RECAPS

Game 1 — at Richmond Flying Squirrels — San Francisco Giants affiliate (June 9) — Senators 1-0

The Senators and Flying Squirrels remained scoreless until the eighth inning, when Harrisburg took the lead on a throwing error by Jack Choate after Johnathon Thomas was hit and pinch-ran for Romero Jr. Harrisburg's offense was limited to two hits, but pitching was dominant, with Jared Simpson, Kyle Luckham, Noah Dean, and Holden Powell combining to hold Richmond scoreless through nine. Choate hit two batters and threw away a pickoff attempt in the eighth, allowing Thomas to score the only run. Harrisburg’s staff earned their fifth shutout win of the season, in a game lasting just 2 hous.

Game 2 — at Richmond Flying Squirrels — San Francisco Giants affiliate (June 10) — Senators 2-7

The Senators took an early lead Wednesday night on Caleb Lomavita’s two-run homer, but Richmond responded with three homers and scored seven unanswered runs to win 7-2. Lomavita’s seventh home run drove in Pineda to put Harrisburg ahead 2-0, but the Squirrels quickly cut the lead with Maui Ahuna’s homer. Richmond took the lead in the third with Bo Davidson’s 12th homer, then added two more in the fourth to stretch the margin to 5-2. Harrisburg’s Connor Van Scoyoc struggled, allowing five runs in three innings, while Thomas Schultz and Erick Mejia kept the Squirrels in check. Harrisburg managed only two hits after Lomavita’s homer and hit into four double plays, their season high.

Game 3 — at Richmond Flying Squirrels — San Francisco Giants affiliate (June 11) — Senators 10-11

The Senators rallied from an 11-2 deficit, scoring eight runs in the eighth inning highlighted by Devin Fitz-Gerald’s first Double-A homer, but Richmond held on to win 11-10. The Squirrels opened the scoring with Charlie Szykowny’s two three-run homers, and after Harrisburg responded with runs on Pichardo’s single and Romero’s sac fly, Richmond exploded for seven runs in the fifth. Harrisburg’s big eighth inning saw Fitz-Gerald’s two-run homer, a grand slam by Caleb Lomavita, and multiple hits, bringing the score to 11-10. Despite putting the tying run on in the ninth, the Senators fell just short, as Tyler Vogel secured the win for Richmond.

Game 4 — at Richmond Flying Squirrels — San Francisco Giants affiliate (June 12) — Senators 0-3

The Flying Squirrels took an early 3-0 lead and shut out the Senators in a rain-shortened game, clinching the Southwest Division's first-half postseason spot. Isaac Lyon allowed three runs in four innings but settled in after the first, retiring the last 10 batters he faced. Harrisburg out-hit Richmond 3-2 with singles from Brown and doubles from Romero Jr. and Pineda, but also hit into two double plays. The game was officially called after a delay in the fifth inning.

Game 5 — at Richmond Flying Squirrels — San Francisco Giants affiliate (June 13) — Senators 7-6

The Senators and Flying Squirrels exchanged leads in a back-and-forth game, with Harrisburg winning 7-6 on a walk-off in the ninth. Harrisburg took an early 2-0 lead with a double from Lomavita and an RBI single from Pineda, but Richmond responded, tying the game and taking the lead in the seventh. The Sens regained the lead in the eighth, but Richmond scored two in the bottom of the inning to go ahead 6-5. In the ninth, Wallace and Petersen sparked the rally, with Romero’s single tying the game, and Lomavita drawing a walk to load the bases. Pineda then walked, scoring Petersen and giving Harrisburg the win.

Game 6 — at Richmond Flying Squirrels — San Francisco Giants affiliate (June 14) — Senators 4-5

The Senators took an early 3-0 lead with solo homers from Petry, Wallace, and Lomavita, but Richmond rallied to tie the game at 4-4 with a three-run sixth and forced extras. Harrisburg led 4-2 after Wallace’s second homer in the sixth, but the Squirrels scored three straight runs to win 5-4 in the 10th on a walk-off hit-by-pitch. Harrisburg’s bullpen kept the team close, but a storm delay and a tough finish cost them the series finale.

  • Player shoutout: Johnathon Thomas The center field room is really jacked up with Thomas and Petersen. Thomas has been hitting strong as well with 41 hits and 20 RBI, second on the team in stolen bases.

  • Fun stat: Sam Petersen leads the team with 20 stolen bases.

💬 QUOTE OR INSIGHT

Kevin Kulp was very excited at the beginning of the year for the Senators home stretch to begin and for good reason, the attendance numbers have been very steady and the fanbase continues to grow.

🔍 SERIES PREVIEW: NEXT UP

The Harrisburg Senators head back to FNB Field to host the Erie SeaWolves (Detroit Tigers) beginning on June 16th.

Erie won the previous series but it is now over a month later and there is a lot to look forward to in Harrisburg. Saturday will be the long awaited Harry Potter night at FNB.
