📰 THE BIG PICTURE
The Harrisburg Senators are back in the winning circle in the series category after beating Richmond in the shortened 5-game series at home to begin July. The bats were on fire this week as all of the Senators wins came in games they scored at least 5 runs in. This is a huge series win for the standings as well as for momentum.
⚔️ GAME RECAPS
Game 1 — vs Richmond Flying Squirrels — San Francisco Giants affiliate (June 30) — Senators 2-3
The Senators narrowly lost to the Flying Squirrels 3-2, with Harrisburg coming close to tying the game in the ninth inning. Randall pitched seven strong innings, tying his career high, allowing three runs on six hits, and striking out seven. Harrisburg’s offense was limited to just three hits, with Lomavita’s early homer and Pineda’s unearned run providing the only scoring. Kranick, on a rehab assignment, pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth, showing promising signs. The Senators threatened in the ninth, with Thomas stealing second and third, but ultimately stranded at third as the game concluded in under two and a half hours.
Game 2 — vs Richmond Flying Squirrels — San Francisco Giants affiliate (July 1) — Senators 7-2
The Senators staged a dramatic rally in the eighth inning to defeat the Flying Squirrels 7-2, overcoming a 2-2 tie to score five runs and take the series lead. Harrisburg’s offense ignited with Fitz-Gerald’s leadoff double, followed by a series of hit-by-pitches and key singles that pushed across multiple runs. White’s two-RBI single and Lawson’s two-out single extended the lead to 7-2. Earlier, Harrisburg took the lead in the second on Petersen’s homer and Pineda’s RBI single. Clemmey pitched five strong innings, and the bullpen held Richmond scoreless after the tie. Powell closed out the game with a scoreless ninth, sealing the victory.
Game 3 — vs Richmond Flying Squirrels — San Francisco Giants affiliate (July 2) — Senators 8-4
The Senators built an early lead and maintained their dominance with an 8-4 victory over the Flying Squirrels, securing their third straight win. Lyon’s career-high seven-inning effort kept Richmond to just one run, while Harrisburg’s offense exploded with 12 hits and five walks. Petersen’s scoring on an error, Lomavita’s single, and White’s first Double-A homer fueled a big fifth inning, and Petry’s double in the seventh capped the scoring. Sio’s three-run homer in the eighth narrowed the gap briefly, but Gaston finished strong with a scoreless ninth. Harrisburg will look to continue their winning streak in the series finale Friday night.
Game 4 — vs Richmond Flying Squirrels — San Francisco Giants affiliate (July 3) — Senators 0-7
The Flying Squirrels' Greg Farone delivered his best outing of the season, shutting out the Senators for six innings to secure a 7-0 victory and even the series. Farone's six-inning performance marked a season high, and notably, both of his wins this year have come against Harrisburg. On the mound for Harrisburg, Trevor Williams, on a rehab assignment from the Nationals, pitched 2.1 scoreless innings to start the game, providing a solid start but ultimately unable to prevent Richmond’s offensive surge. Despite a promising opportunity in the second inning, Harrisburg couldn’t capitalize, and the Squirrels pulled away with a big fifth-inning homer from Velasquez and a three-run shot from Harber in the seventh.
Game 5 — vs Richmond Flying Squirrels — San Francisco Giants affiliate (July 5) — Senators 6-5
The Senators staged a dramatic comeback to beat the Flying Squirrels 6-5, winning their series three games to two. Richmond jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first on Harber’s homer, but Harrisburg responded quickly with Petersen’s 13th homer of the season. The Squirrels extended their lead to 5-1 after homers from Harber again in the fifth, but the Senators kept fighting. Pichardo’s scored on a wild pitch in the sixth, and Lomavita’s double and Petry’s single in the seventh cut the deficit to two. In the eighth, Brown’s opposite-field single and Lomavita’s 12th homer, his ninth in 17 games, turned the game in Harrisburg’s favor.
