Nats Lose 3 Game Win Streak, Back on Prowl
⚾ DUGOUT DISPATCH
After completing a 3 game sweep over the weekend, the Nats rest day on Monday might have killed some of that momentum, in a relatively close battle yesterday that they were unable to capitalize on. Taking an early lead and quickly losing it, the Nats were unable to bring it back and are back in the loss column looking for a win. Still with 2 games left in the series, they are still in position to go for their 2nd straight series win, but it is going to take winning 2 straight beginning today at home. Each game is starting to feel a little more important as the season continues on, as teams continue to pull away from the Nats, who are back to struggling to getting back over .500. It is not over until August is over though.
📊 THE BOX SCORE:
After the loss last night, the Nats are back on their climb to .500, currently at 59-62 for the year, and back in the loss column. With the cold streak from last week hopefully well behind them, if the Nats are going to get hot, they must do it now with the NL Wild Card race continuing to distance itself from the Nats. If the Nats are going to be in contention to end their 7 year playoff streak, they must get at least 2 games back over the .500 line by the time August is over, as they currently sit 5 games out of the 3rd spot, and none of the other teams will be slowing down for them. There is also added pressure on the Nats to catch fire in August, as their remaining schedule for the month is very doable, before having to start September with back-to-back series against 2 division leaders in the Braves and Dodgers.
In yesterday’s game the Nats elected to go to Miles Mikolas as a bullpen arm late in the game, presumably leaving today’s game open for the newly acquired arms to show out and try and get the Nats back in the win column. The Nats will probably see arms like Trevor Williams, Yovanny Cruz, Will Dion, and Jake Bird all get action in today’s game, as the Nats hope to hone in on their strengths coming off one of the best bullpen weekends in a while for the Nats led by them. They acquired these arms at the deadline for a reason, now it is just about if they can perform for the Nats or not.
In another loss yesterday, the Nats offense obviously continued to show out, still leading the MLB in HRs, RBIs, Runs Per Game, stolen bases and OPS. Hopefully with the new arms finding their step, the offense will be able to have the freedom to score insurance runs to add to their lead, rather than feeling the need to score to stay in the game, although after a rough start from Irvin yesterday, that was not the case once again. Starting must stay solid if the new bullpen is going to make a difference paired with the best offense in the MLB currently.
Be sure to cheer extra hard today, as it feels that this series might mean more than it looks for the Nats. Needing to get above the .500 bad… and fast, this is their chance to get the week rolling and push into next weekend on series wins and an above .500 record. Although it would feel good to win the next 2, getting swept feels like it would put the Nats in an extremely deep hole. They have to get something going against the Cubs or they will never be able to get their momentum going.

Despite starting off the game with a 2 run shot by CJ Abrams, the Nats lead didn’t last long, quickly losing it in the 4th, and never able to get it back due to starter Jake Irvin struggling to get anything going. Deciding to let Miles Mikolas close out the game, he had a solid outing, throwing 3 innings and allowing only 1 run, most likely setting up a bullpen game for today. The young offense continued to shine, scoring 6 runs with multiple young players continuing to put up great performances and keeping their amazing standings going.

⚾ DUGOUT DISPATCH:
The Nats farm system returned to action Tuesday with three completed games and one weather-shortened contest, as Harrisburg picked up the organization's lone victory while Rochester and Wilmington each dropped close games. The Fred Nats3 matchup was suspended after three innings due to weather and will be resumed today if weather permits. Despite Tuesday's results, Rochester and Fredericksburg continue to lead their respective divisions, while the Nats top prospects continue to make an impact throughout the system.
📊 THE BOX SCORE:
The Rochester Red Wings, the Nats Triple-A affiliate, fell 8-6 to Charlotte after surrendering a three-run seventh inning that erased a late advantage. Maxwell Romero Jr. launched a two-run homer, Cayden Wallace added a two-run blast of his own, and Yohandy Morales collected two hits as Rochester dropped to 67-46. Despite the loss, the Red Wings remain atop the International League East heading into Wednesday's matchup.
The Harrisburg Senators, the Nats Double-A affiliate, opened their series with a 4-2 victory over the Richmond Squirrels to improve to 55-53 on the season. Caleb Lomavita tripled and scored twice, while Ethan Petry crushed a two-out, three-run homer in the fourth inning to provide the difference. Harrisburg's pitching staff held Richmond to just six hits, giving the Senators an important win to begin the series.
The Wilmington Blue Rocks, the Nats High-A affiliate, dropped a heartbreaking 3-2 walk-off loss to the Renegades, after they scored the winning run on a homer in the ninth inning. Angel Feliz accounted for both Wilmington runs with his eighth home run of the season, while Carson Fischer delivered six strong innings. Eli Willits added a hit and stole his 20th base of the season as the Blue Rocks fell to 54-53 on the year.
The Fredericksburg Nationals, the Nats Single-A affiliate, had Tuesday night's game suspended after three innings because of inclement weather. The contest will be resumed before Wednesday's scheduled game, with the FredNats remaining in first place in the Carolina League North entering the rest of the series.

The Nats four minor league affiliates now own a combined 243-192 record on the season. Rochester and Fredericksburg continue to lead their respective divisions, while all four teams sit above .500 on the season.
