Pitcher’s hurl 3 shutouts
Harrisburg pitchers combined for three shutouts last week. Kyle Luckham (2-2) worked seven innings against Richmond. Dustin Saenz picked up a victory limiting the Flying Squirrels to six hits in 5 2/3 frames.
Garrett Davilia took the W as five pitchers stopped Richmond May 9. Miguel Gomez made the surprise start in place of the injured Jarlin Susana. Susana left his start May 4 after 80 pitches and only three innings. He went on the seven-day injured list May 10 with a grade 1 UCL sprain.
Riley Cornelio worked six scoreless innings against Richmond May 10 in his debut for Harrisburg after a promotion from Wilmington. Ivan Armstrong allowed a couple of dingers in the eighth and took the loss.
The shutouts helped the Senators ERA improve to 3.87.
Viandel Pena and Yohandy Morales paced the Senators offense with nine and eight hits, respectively, last week, as Harrisburg split the week 3-3.
Pena has the hottest of all Senator bats this month. He has nine hits including a pair of doubles, a triple and two homers, 7 RBI, a .360 batting average and .760 slugging average.
Phillip Glasser collected seven hits last week and ranks seventh in the Eastern League (EL) in OPS (.915) despite hitting only one home run. Glasser has six doubles and a .370 batting average.
Morales’ .887 OPS puts him at 12th . Morales has hit four home runs. Joe Naranjo ranks just behind Morales with an .856. Naranjo is propped up by 23 walks, second highest in the league. Nick Schnell has cooled some, but is still hitting .310, with six doubles and a pair of triples for an .807 OPS.
The team has moved into third in the EL in batting.
