We haven't had one pitch thrown in the regular season, and today Major League Baseball has released the 2021 Regular Season schedule. Let's forget the 2020 season (more on that later) and move onto 2021. I think that we can all agree that 2020 was a major bust.

Enough of that, let's talk about the 2021 baseball season. The 2021 MLB regular season will begin with all MLB teams playing on Thursday, April 1 2021. "The 2021 season will mark the fourth consecutive season in which all 30 clubs are scheduled to play on traditional Opening Day," the press release said today.

Additionally, "Opening Day of the 2021 campaign could also become the first season since 1968 in which every team across the Majors plays their first game of the season on the same day..." the press release went on to say.

Interleague play throughout the season will feature the AL. East v. NL East, AL Central v. NL Central, and the AL West v. NL West. A highlight of the 2021 season will be when the New York Mets play against the New York Yankees from Citi field from September 10 -12th. This matchup will be the first time the New York teams will play each other on September 11 as MLB will be observing the 20th anniversary of the attacks. The Mets and the Yankees will also play on July 4 during the 2021 season.

Some other highlights so far from the schedule:

  • LA Dodgers will begin their home schedule with a three-game series against the Washington Nationals in a rematch of the 2019 NLDS.
  • The Atlanta Braves will host the St. Louis Cardinals for four games across Father's Day weekend, which is also a rematch of the other 2019 NLDS series.
  • The 91st MLB All-Star game will be played on Tuesday, July 13, at Truist Park in Atlanta, the first time that ballpark will be hosting the midsummer classic, and it is the first time that Atlanta had hosted the All-Star game since 2000 when it was played at Turner Field.
