The Washington Nationals have announced that RHP Luke Young has been assigned to AA Harrisburg from Rochester. Young has been in Rochester since his promotion in early May. He pitched extremely well in May. His June has been up and down. He pitched sixteen innings in June and while the numbers don’t show a ton of runs given up (4, 3ER), he has struggled with command at times walking six and striking out 5. He had a very rough outing eight days ago against Lehigh Valley that saw him pitch only one inning and allow 5 runs on 6 hits (1 HR) and striking out 2.
The counter move to make room for Young’s addition to the active roster is Marquis Grissom Jr has been placed on the Development List. Grissom Jr, the son of former Montreal Expo, MLB great and World Series Champion Marquis Grissom, has struggled this season. Once a top 30 prospect in the Nationals organization, Grissom had an up and down season with some very solid outings that looked like he may be working himself out of the funk. When he’s run into trouble this year it’s been tough. He's struggled with command at times, though it was better in the month of June. He last pitched last weekend against Richmond. He pitched 2/3 inning, allowing two runs on three hits and took the loss. Hopefully Marquis can get the work he needs on the Development List with the pitching coach staff in Harrisburg and get back on track. When he’s right he can be a very solid bullpen piece.
