Today, the Washington Nationals made another move to their pitching staff. The Nationals brought up from the Alternate Training Site in Fredericksburg, left-handed pitcher Ben Braymer who will replace another left-handed pitcher Seth Romero was placed on the 10-day injured list with a broken right hand on Monday, August 24.
Braymer, who is 26 will join the active roster for the first time in his career and to make his Major League debut with this first appearance. Ben Braymer was the Washington Nationals co-Minor League Pitcher of the year in 2018. Braymer is 18-17 with two saves and a 3.64 ERA in 75 appearances over four Minor League Seasons.
In 2019, Braymer began the season with Double-A Harrisburg, where he went 4–4 with a 2.51 ERA (22 ER/79.0 IP) and 69 strikeouts in 13 starts, before being promoted to Triple-A Fresno where he went 0–6 with a 7.20 ERA (48 ER/60.0 IP) in 13 starts. He finished the season posting a 3.43 ERA (8 ER/21.0 IP) and recording 17 strikeouts in his last four starts. Braymer finished the 2019 campaign leading Washington’s Minor League system with 26 starts, ranked third with 139.0 innings pitched and sixth with 116 strikeouts.
Braymer was Washington’s 18th round pick in the 2016 First-Year Player Draft, and attended Auburn (AL) University, after transferring from Louisiana State University at Eunice. He is rated as Washington’s #24 prospect by MLBPipeline.com and Baseball America.
