(Washington, D.C.) - The Washington Nationals closed their four-game series against the Colorado Rockies with a 7-1 victory at Nationals Park, earning a series split and clinching the 2026 season series over Colorado.

Daylen Lile continued his standout August with a home run, two RBI, and another multi-hit performance, while the Nationals bullpen delivered 4 2/3 scoreless innings to secure the win. Washington improved to 63-73 overall and 29-38 at Nationals Park before welcoming the Miami Marlins to D.C. for a four-game wraparound weekend series.

The Nationals opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning when Daylen Lile lined an RBI single that traveled 192 feet, scoring CJ Abrams from third base.

Washington added to its lead throughout the afternoon against Rockies starter Gabriel Hughes. Dylan Crews, Brady House, Lile, and Keibert Ruiz each drove in runs as the Nationals built a comfortable advantage.

Lile’s biggest hit came in the fifth inning. He launched his 18th home run of the 2026 season off Hughes, extending Washington’s lead to 4-1.

Lile has remained one of the Nationals’ hottest hitters during the final stretch of August. In seven games since August 21, he is batting .429 (12-for-28) with two doubles, three home runs, nine RBI, and seven runs scored.

The 23-year-old outfielder has recorded four multi-hit games during that seven-game span and continues to provide a major offensive boost near the top of Washington’s lineup.

His late-summer performance follows an impressive August surge last season, when he ranked among Major League Baseball’s leaders in extra-base hits, batting average, and slugging percentage after August 21.

Keibert Ruiz provided additional late offense for the Nationals, hitting a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning. The blast was Ruiz’s ninth homer of the season.

Ruiz also doubled in the seventh inning and has now reached base safely in 12 of his last 16 games.

Washington finished 3-for-17 with runners in scoring position and left 12 runners on base, but the lineup still produced enough timely offense to pull away from Colorado.

Jacob Young and Nasim Nuñez also stole bases in the victory.

Jake Irvin started for Washington and pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing one earned run on three hits. He struck out six Rockies hitters, threw 94 pitches, recorded 53 strikes, and faced 23 batters.

Colorado’s lone run came on an RBI single by Brett Sullivan in the third inning.

Tom Cosgrove earned his first win of the 2026 season, improving to 1-2 with a 4.80 ERA. Cosgrove worked 1 2/3 innings in relief and navigated two bases-loaded situations to preserve Washington’s lead.

The Nationals bullpen combined for 4 2/3 scoreless innings, with Cosgrove, Erik Tolman, Clayton Beeter, and Orlando Ribalta shutting down the Rockies the rest of the way.

Gabriel Hughes took the loss for Colorado, falling to 0-6.

The Washington Nationals return to Nationals Park for a four-game wraparound weekend series against the Miami Marlins.
