Nats Continue to Start Season Hot

⚾ DUGOUT DISPATCH

After getting off to their best start since 2018, the Nats continue to look like a force to be reckoned with, moving their record to 3-1 on the season. With their starting pitchers all able to make it to at least 5 innings in their starts, and their immensely strong run support, the Nats young core looks nearly unstoppable to start 2026.

📊 THE BOX SCORE:

  • Joey Wiemer Makes History, Nats 27 year-old outfielder Joey Wiemer, has gotten out to a white-hot start, batting 8-10 to start the season, and becoming just the 2nd player in the last 106 years to reach base safely for 10 consecutive plate appearances to start a season.

  • Nats Pitcher Foster Griffin in his Nats Debut had an extremely strong outing, allowing only 2 runs through 5 innings, but more importantly not walking a single batter, showing his control early this season.

  • Nats only have to win one more game against NL East powerhouse Phillies in order to win their series against the division rivals. However, the NL East actually has four 3-1 teams currently, giving the Nats a hard time to get into an early division lead.

  • Butera Balling, so far so strong, Nats brand-new manager Blake Butera has had a strong start so far to the 2026 season, seemingly making mostly right moves with his pitching rotations and hitting rotations, also notching a successful challenge in yesterday's game.

    🗣️ LOCKER ROOM LORE

Despite the strong start to the season, the Nats must continue to put up large amounts of runs and more importantly, keep putting wins in the win column. Coming into this season with lots of doubters and a chip on their shoulder in the NL East, the Nats have a long season ahead of them, with lots more instances to come for them to show that the start hasn’t been a fluke.

📈 MORNING STAT

In 162 games last season, the Nats scored 10+ runs in only 12 of them (7%). So far this season, they have score 10+ in 2 of their 4 total games. (50%)

  • Final Score: Nationals 13, Phillies 2

⚾ DUGOUT DISPATCH

After a 4 run first inning, there was nothing the Phillies could do to slow down the Nats fire hot offense; scoring runs in the first 3 innings whilst pitching a shutout. Despite not hitting any homers, the team’s refusal to get out in scoring situations really stood out. Phillies starting pitcher Taijuan Walker threw 99 pitches and only tallied 2 strikeouts through 4.2 innings, as the Nats kept putting balls in play.

📊 THE BOX SCORE

  • Winning Pitcher: Foster Griffin ([1–0], 5.0, 5H, 2R, 2ER, 0BB, 5K)

  • Losing Pitcher: Taijuan Walker ([0–1], 4.2IP, 10H, 7R, 6ER, 3BB, 2K)

  • Key Hitters:

  • Errors: Nats 1, Phillies 2

  • Attendance: 35,609

🎙️ LOCKER ROOM LORE

After starting of the Season 8-10 with 2+ hits in every game, Nats young star Joey Wiemer has looked like a huge addition for the Nats, playing seemingly unstoppable.

“That’s what makes me, me,” Wiemer said after Nationals’ 13-2. “Regardless of the score, situation, I’m going to play hard.”

📅 NEXT AT BAT

  • Next Game: vs. Phillies, March 31, 2026, 6:40 PM EST, Citizens Bank Park
