The Nationals will kick off the month with a stop in Cincinnati and then return home to face the Cleveland Guardians and then the St. Louis Cardinals before heading to face the Atlanta Braves.

When the Nationals traded Juan Soto for a handful of players the one of the names that kept on standing out was outfielder James Wood. Wood quickly went through the Nationals' minor leagues, had a short time in Triple-A Rochester, and was called up last summer. Wood is entering his first full season at the major league level this year, and boy, he has been as advertised. A local kid, with what seems to be a bright personality, a love for the game, and yeah, he can play.
Entering last night’s game, James Wood is tied for fourth in Major League Baseball and second in the National League with nine home runs and ranks second among National League hitters in pitches/plate appearances, tied for eighth with 16 extra-base hits, and 10th in slugging percentage (.533).
If that doesn’t impress you enough, over his last 13 games, James Wood is slashing .280/.390/.540 with four doubles, three home runs, eight RBIs, nine walks, and seven runs scored. He’s recorded a hit in nine of those 13 games.
Wood has also reached base safely in 11 consecutive games (.400 OBP) and in 25 of his last 27 contests (.375 OBP). Remarkably, he’s the only player in Major League Baseball this season to post two separate on-base streaks of at least 11 games.
It is easy to say that James Wood is our Player of the Week!
