“You’ve just got to go out there and try and put a barrel on the ball. After you hit it—there’s not really not much you can do after that. But I’m just trying to consistently put the barrel on the ball, and I feel like eventually good things will happen,” said James Wood

Weekend Recap

Via Washington Nationals
⚾ DUGOUT DISPATCH
While the Nationals did lose their series to the Dodgers this past weekend, there were plenty of positive things that came out of it. These positives include some more strong pitching performances from both starters and the bullpen, as well as CJ Abrams’ production at the plate.
📊 THE BOX SCORE:
Friday afternoon, the Nationals dropped their home opener to the Los Angeles Dodgers 13-6, while on Saturday, they lost to the Dodgers 10-6
These losses came despite rather strong performances from the pitching lineup, with both the bullpen and the starters—Miles Mikolas and Jake Irvin, respectively—putting up a collective 16 strikeouts across both games
CJ Abrams was the standout for the Nats across Friday and Saturday’s games, going 3-7 across the series and reaching a total of nine bases across the two games
Abrams was instrumental in the Nats’ offense for the weekend, hitting two multi-run home runs—a three-run on Friday, and a two-run on Saturday—and batting in a total of six runs
🗣️ LOCKER ROOM LORE
“It looks nice and easy, it doesn’t look like he’s trying to overswing or do too much. Then he takes his nice, smooth swing and the ball’s jumping right now. That’s the biggest thing for CJ: I think when he just lets the game come to him a little bit, those good things seem to happen,” said manager Blake Butera of CJ Abrams’ recent performance.

theFUTURE

⚾ DUGOUT DISPATCH
All of the teams that kicked off their seasons over the weekend—the Senators, the Blue Rocks, and Fredericksburg—all kicked off their season on a high note by either taking or splitting their respective series. Meanwhile, the Red Wings hit a bump in the road right before they head on the road.
📊 THE BOX SCORE:
The Rochester Red Wings lost the second half of their series against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, losing both games of their Friday doubleheader, the first game 4-2 and the second game 17-4, as well as both Saturday and Sunday’s games, 4-3 and 16-5, respectively
The Harrisburg Senators swept the Altoona Curve, racking up a total of twelve runs over just two games, with Friday’s final being 6-5 and Saturday’s being 6-3
While the Wilmington Blue Rocks series deciding game yesterday against the Jersey Shore BlueClaws was postponed due to inclement weather, the two teams split the previous two games, with the Blue Rocks losing on Friday 19-5, and winning on Saturday 5-1
The Fredericksburg Nationals swept their first series of the year against the Augusta GreenJackets, winning Friday 5-3, Saturday 6-5, and Sunday 10-8
🗣️ LOCKER ROOM LORE
While the Red Wings have hit a small bump in the road recently, they’ve started off their season strong, and part of that is thanks to Dylan Crews. While he slumped in their opening series on the road in Jacksonville, he bounced back when the Red Wings made it back home. This bounce back included being Rochester’s only two runs in their 4-2 loss to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the first game of their doubleheader. This recent hot streak has not only given a boost to his numbers but has also made him an integral part of the Red Wings’ offensive game.

What have you thought of Crews’ recent performance? Do you think the Senators, Blue Rocks, and Fredericksburg can keep up their momentum heading into nearly week-long series?
