Quick Note: Nats Call Up #1 Prospect CJ Abrams

Recently, middle infielder Luis Garcia has been experiencing leg pain, and it seems he will likely miss time, though he has not been placed on the IL yet. In precautionary news, Dan Glickman reported that Abrams was removed from the game today because he is being called up. This will be the 2019 #6 overall pick's second stint in MLB. Abrams struggled with a .605 OPS in 125 ABs. That said, there are a few things to expect from Abrams during his time in DC.

  1. Contact: he's similar to Keibert Ruiz in that he can make contact with virtually any pitch. He not only hits for average but also walks a good amount. His power, though is nothing to write about as he only hit 2 HRs in the majors (though he was on a 27 HR/150 pace in the minors).
  2. Speed: Abrams has 80-grade speed, which is virtually unheard of. He flies around the bags and stole 14 bases in 38 games this year.
  3. Defense: Abrams is a defense-first player with ++ range and + arm strength. Easily a defensive upgrade over Luis at SS.

In short, there's a lot to be excited about with Abrams. He doesn't have the highest potential of the prospect the Nats got back, but he has a high chance of being a solid gold glove SS.
