On Tuesday, May 24th, 2022, Stephen Strasburg and Joe Ross made their season debuts during rehab outings. The results couldn't have been more different.

Stephen Strasburg, who virtually hasn't pitched since game 6 of the 2o19 World Series, took the mound at low A Fredricksburg, while Ross, who's recovering from a UCL injury in mid-2021, started in AA Harrisburg.

Let's start with the good news; Joe Ross sparkled as he threw 3  scoreless innings (31 pitches, 24 for strikes). He gave up only two hits, struck out 4, and walked none. While Ross was scheduled to go 4, it seems that he is on schedule and should be encouraged by this.

On to Strasburg, he struggled. Badly. Strasburg couldn't even get through 3 innings as he tossed 61 pitches, with only 31 for strikes. In his 2.2 IP, Stephen gave up 3 runs on 3 hits, 4 BBs, and 2 wild pitches. He looks broken, but it could mean several things. Sure, he could be irreparably damaged, but he may just be tinkering with some mechanics, and it may not have worked. Nats fans have every right to be concerned, but one should only panic if he repeats this.

In short, we have seen some good signs and some bad. There is no guarantee that this is what should be expected out of our guys in their next starts.
